Video: Renato Laranja Gives Joe Rogan An Earful About Smoking Weed and Badmouthing Brazil

(Video courtesy of YouTube/TwisterEddie)

Renato Laranja doesn’t take kindly to people dissing his beloved Brazilian homeland, and why should he? The dude is a 27-time Mundials champ.

It doesn’t matter if the guy talking smack about his country is a UFC commentator and the host of Fear Factor. Renato gives Joe Rogan no pass, even if he wants to avoid a face-to-face conflict with the dangerous BJJ black belt, because he “talks a lot of stuffs.”

Laranja has issue with Rogan’s penchant for smoking “the heefer,” because he feels like kids who are fans of his work in the UFC and on TV will start smoking it to emulate Joe.

Both sides make some valid points.

Renato makes perhaps the most well thought out argument of the exchange when he points out that weed was harmless back in the 40s and 50s when “black guys would smoke the herb and listen to some jazz hecords,” but he says that times have changed and that pot is now a “super heefer” which is a “hecipe for disaster.”

The question is, when are we going to see this guy take on Chael Sonnen? That fight would sell itself without any marketing by the UFC.

Get over yourself, Bro. It's. A. Fucking. Joke.
I watch damn near everything the UFC puts out, minus a few shitty PPV's, and I've never seen em "promote" drug use, either directly or indirectly. Besides, you've been on here long enough to know it's all nut- hugging and nut-bashing. Lighten up Homie!

@Todd M
Actually, there is a big liability for Zuffa down the road if they don't mature. If one takes the position that they are the MMA pinnacle of success...then the corporation has a obligation to both ethics to the communities they engage with. Promoting drug usage with both fighters and contractors by proxy is going to bring big heat soon.
As for CP, I don't care who pays their salary, their offices are on Whilshire Boulevard bro..., if you know anything about LA business, that is in the heart of Los Angeles - and the Jewish controlled entertainment and media capital of the world.
You should know that besides sharing near identical DNA, the Arabs, Jews, and Persians (Iranians) all do business with everyone, even with those they publicly claim they have a dispute with. This most likely includes Zuffa and the UFC.

@Todd M
Just a theory, no paranoia bro. I'll leave that Nick Diaz and his bag of "heefer."
Todd M- October 5, 2011 at 10:29 pm
Ah XENO, I missed your paranoid theories, It's ironic you don't indulge in the 'Heefer'

This is an awesome commercial.
XENOPHON- October 5, 2011 at 5:09 pm
Thanks for the diligence lost. Fake as it may be the content is skewed to promote drug-use by those some consider role models - and cool. As adults we get it, as kids they don't.
Zuffa is not in the business of selling cigarettes, they sell sporting entertainment, toys, collectables, and video games to children.
Yet, the very same executives responsible allow both their contractors and employees promote drug usage, alcohol, and fast times - and they have made a monopoly doing so.
Maybe the staff at CP should do some soul searching along with the diligence. Between you and me, I have a strong feeling that Zuffa is a client of CP, and the planted the story which was known to be fake.
Until we see a formal retraction, the guilty stand accused.

I looked at a lot of the comments and hoped that somebody would say this is fake. Nobody did so im saying it. This is fake, maybe this website didn't know that but its embarrassing that they thought it was real. They should of did more research before they wrote this article. renato is a character, he is an american actor who was a cast on the soap days of our lives. Again i repeat this is fake.
mmafanatic- October 5, 2011 at 12:36 pm
After i watched the whole vid and the brazillian guy at the end was saying he was just trying to save and help him tells me that he's really not an a hole just un educated and really feels strongly about what he believes in and you cant hate a guy like that. He's looking out for the kids and thats actually cool, it shows he REALLY cares. maybe he should look up current real facts to educate himself on the subject but you cant hate on a guy for standing up for what he believes is right, even if he doesnt have his facts quite straight...
mmafanatic- October 5, 2011 at 12:17 pm
All you guys hating on weed need to get out and do your research becuase weed isnt bad for you. I do agree that a fighter should be clean before he fights and has no place in the ring, but to simply say its a horrible thing and hate on guys that do responsibly use it is ignorant. Joe has facts, the other guy has racist comments, round 1 to joe...
Reckin007- October 5, 2011 at 12:15 pm
I hate the EXTREME words the Bleacher Report uses. Joe Rogan "BLASTED"....umm no haha.

In any case I'm not sure why you think Rogan would lose to this guy, Rogan actually knows how to fight, plus he is a comedian so you're never going to outwit him.
sofaking- October 5, 2011 at 11:50 am
the video is fake.this guy is a student of eddie bravo's an a actor.check him out on the net, mastering the system(eddie bravos)
micloudon- October 5, 2011 at 11:49 am
this is a joke there is no Renato Laranja if he was a championship grappler don't you think he'd have website. the video is a joke
XENOPHON- October 5, 2011 at 11:27 am
I absolutely agree with you. I just lost 4 boys, and you seem like a dam good father. So let me ask you this, since Rogan is contractor to Zuffa, or was...why hasn't Zuffa ever once come out and made a clear statement about the obviously often stoned and under the influence Rogan, or the other employees such as Nick Diaz who feel compelled to flaunt their preference for drug usage publically - especially when a large part of the audience watching the UFC, are indeed kids?
dreamtime- October 5, 2011 at 10:17 am
Laranja may come off as an A-hole in this video but I absolutely agree with him about Rogan and his Weed habit. I saw Rogan on a cable show a couple of weeks ago where he sat around talking with other stoners. I can't remember the name of the show. Rogan was baked and he looked like an idiot. I've been a UFC fan since the beginning. I'm American and I’m a black belt in Brazilian Jujitsu. My son is a black belt and I got my young step daughter into it. I take pride that the sport not only teaches people self-defense, but teaches them a healthy lifestyle, which is the tradition of martial arts. Rogan is an entertaining guy for sure, but he should keep his drug habit to himself.
XENOPHON- October 5, 2011 at 9:52 am
Renato Laranja is disadvantaged with the language barrier, and might not have posed the best arguments to Rogan, but he speaks from his and professional athletes on any drug during competition is not acceptable.
In war, men have been given drugs (uppers and downers) to stay in the fight for life over extend periods of combat, the cage is not even close a life and death comparison.
One can make the case that marijuana is not much different that alcohol. I don't think a dime bag should be illegal, but that is not at the heart of this video. When's the last time you paid $55 bucks to watch a series of two drunks fighting?
ArmFarmer- October 5, 2011 at 8:43 am
You can't hun away from your phoblems fohever Joe Hogan... you can't hun away fohever...

MentalyptiC- October 5, 2011 at 7:54 am
Wow. Renato is a complete idiot, spittin out random, in-accurate facts and for what? Seriously, if you're going to argue with Joe Rogan, you need to have your facts strait.
foxforcefive- October 5, 2011 at 7:48 am
I didn't know Joe was the Hulk's little brother?

I was smoking weed when I watched this video, and it made the video make complete sense.
