In the latest episode of MMA Live the two sides of the ‘Is Anderson Silva just a big jerk?’ argument adopted here by Stephan Bonner (a fighter) and Franklin McNeil (a writer) tells us something we should have guessed from the start. That is, what you thought about that fight probably depends a great deal on how you see fighting in general.
Bonnar argues that Silva was fighting smart. It’s not his obligation to finish Patrick Cote in one round, even if he can. It’s his obligation to win and not do anything stupid that might jeopardize that.
McNeil takes the fan perspective, arguing that Silva owed a flashy finish to the people who had paid money to see him punch a hole in Cote’s face. He also compares Silva’s “playing around” to Roy Jones Jr.’s, while failing to mention how totally sweet Jones was in his prime.
The thing both men touch on is that because of who Silva is, as well as what the consensus opinion on who Cote is, Silva was in a tough spot. An immediate first-round KO might have seemed satisfactory. Maybe. And if Cote hadn’t blown his knee out, if he had stuck around until Silva put him away, we might not even be talking about this. It’s more a confluence of events that has us talking about Silva as if he’s suddenly public enemy number one, and because of all this talk, I honestly feel sorry for his next opponent.

I also feel sorry for the Spyders next opponent because now the fans demand satifaction.
Anik was busting his chops about his poor recent picks in the fact/fiction or buy/sell thing. Anik doesn't know that much either but he is a boxing guy and the host, not analyst.
I laugh when he predicted <400k PPV buys. That is not going to happen unless a card is in England at 3pm and it shows on tape delay.
McNeil IS a jackass, hopefully they will shit can him and keep Bonner or how about Charles Crazy Horse Bennett?
Anyway, how about you join me at my house for a little home version of MMA for Dummie? I'll show you how to easily get in the full mount postion.
I think A. Silva is a great fighter... but he is not all powerful and can lose. It's going to happen, just a matter of time before it does.
I shoulda put money on Dos Santos!
His next opponent is going straight to hospital in a coma
That was awesome! I 100% AGREE with you!
QUOTED FOR THE FUCKING TRUTH.
Why would they bring in accomplished writers from Boxing? I SAY BEN GOLDSTEIN FOR MMA LIVE PANELIST!!
WARRR GOLDSTEIINNNNN-AHHHHH
Says that Silva wasn't fighting and was playing around. Then later says Silva was dominating/outclassing Cote. If he was beating him, he must have been in a fight. It just wasn't a stand-and-slug fest.
They need to get rid of that guy. Every time he speaks I want to go down there and smash his fucking fat, studdering mouth in. Everyone talks about how he's an "accomplished writer" for boxing. Well, guess what retards, this isn't fucking boxing - it's MMA. He may be an expert of one aspect of the fight but he constantly shows how little he really knows from his comfy seat in the press area.
I watch MMA Live all the time and see the panel dumbfounded by some of the retarded things coming out of his mouth, after he stumbles all over his fucking words. It's like he's the comedy relief and doesn't even fucking know it.
He thought people wanted to see him for more that a few minutes, so he thought he'd stretch the fight out. That was where he miscalculated.
People only want to see a long Anderson fight if it's his opponent who in hanging in there and drawing out the fight... not Anderson, intentionally stretching it out by refusing to use his skill set.
Everyone always talks shit about Roy Jones Jr. and his showboating/showmanship during his fights.. But it's exactly like you said, the man IS ALLOWED to showboat because he's just that damn good. If Boxing is the "Sweet Science" then Roy Jones Jr. must have had his PH.D in Glucose. Because after all is said and done, the man was a fucking monster, even against the best in the world, in 3 weight classes.
Anderson Silva is no different, it's exactly like Stephen Bonnar was saying, Silva was waiting for the exact right moment to counter and tear Cote's head off. To Cote's credit, that moment didn't come in either the first or the second rounds. However, I have no doubt that it would have happened sooner or later, or if Cote never made the mistake, then Silva would have won a (boring) unanimous decision.
