Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Video: UFC Primetime – Lesnar vs. Velasquez Episode 2

(Video courtesy YouTube/SpikeTV/UFC)

If you missed last night’s episode of UFC Primetime: Lesnar vs. Velasquez, look no further, we got you covered, homie.

The recurring theme coming out of Velasquez’s camp is that Cain is going to use his speed and endurance advantage to take Brock into the later rounds where he is planning on putting on a boxing clinic.  Dave Camarillo went so far as to say that Velasquez in planning on being the spry matador who will make Lesnar the bull look like a lumbering idiot…or something to that effect.

Lesnar’s coaches are pissed at the assertion that their fighter is a slow, out of shape fighter, and they take every opportunity to try to dispel the assumption, even sticking temporary training partner, Pat Barry in front of the camera to talk about Brock’s cheetah-like reflexes and ability to out run a Mack truck with a full tank of diesel.

I was a bit taken aback by Erik Paulson’s claim that Brock hits harder than anyone he’s ever trained, especially since we’ve really only seen him throw those awkward turbo hammer fists and no power punches. Maybe we’re in for a surprise on October 23, or maybe Paulson is just trying to scare Cain from standing with Brock using the old bait and switch technique.

They really seem to be playing up Cain’s ethnicity, though I’ve noticed Spike has stopped running the commercial with the, "Velasquez is hoping to become the first Mexican UFC heavyweight champion" since he was born in the U.S. and Ricco Rodriguez isn’t impressed. Not only did he explain the significance of his controversial, "Brown Pride" tattoo for the tenth time in the past few years, he also visited with a group of young Latino men to tell them they should embrace their heritage and that they can do anything they put their minds to if they persevere and work hard.

Unless they’re Tito Ortiz and their goals are to become a commentator.

It’s interesting that Brock wouldn’t let the show film his house, his wife or his kids. He’s always been a pretty private guy and I can’t say I blame him considering how obsessive some adult pro-wrestling fans are.

Part two is after the jump.

Perhaps to much attention is being paid to what an individual decides to get inked on their own skin? I'll qualify that by reminding you all I'm an Aussie and we dont have the same historical connotations re White Pride/Brown Pride that you guys in the US have so maybe I'm missing the point. I think everyones entitled to be proud of who they are and where they come from, as long as its not to the detriment of others.
On a more important topic, I cant pick this one, Brocks a beast who you can never underestimate but Cain is also a pretty fucken awesome fighter, sitting on the fence at the moment, but I'm gonna to be glued tothe TV screen for this one, It will be a fucken beauty of a fight, matter of fact, I think this fight's gonna that much of slobberknocker it's gonna wipe Mir/Crocop from all our memory banks
bruce leroys lice- October 14, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Cain gonna get BROCKLESMASHED!!!!!!!!!!!
DazedNConfused- October 14, 2010 at 4:43 pm
Cains tattoo is all good, as long as he uses it to bring up his own heritage and such and not to down others such as white people. In that case there shouldn't be an issue. Everyones bodies are their own and they can fuck it up any way they want. Cain is one of my favorite heavyweights, FACT. Does that Tattoo look fuckin' retarded? FACT.

PS. I think Cain could beat Fedor easier than Brock/Carwin/JDS or any other UFC fighter could. They're all slow and Fedor is used to that shit and has superior speed mixed with freakishly strong punches. Cain is almost a Fedor build, and if he keeps getting better at his striking like he showed against Big Nog he will fuck the heavyweight division right up.

All right, it seems that there is something getting lost in the mix here. Now, a majority of countries in the world are named after the predominant ethnicity within them. Germany, for example, is made up of 91.5% Germans. In the United States, just like Canada, however, the population is named for the country in which they live. Because in the US one would have to accurately say "citizen of the United States of America", the demonym is shortened to American. American, however, is not an ethnicity. In fact, it can just as well be applied to Mexicans and Canadians as the continent of North America was not named for the United States.
Velasquez is not choosing being Mexican over American here. He's emphasizing that he is Mexican AND American. He may not mention that he is an American because his citizenship does not seem to be the relevant issue. When our friend Old Bald and Irish posts, do we assume that he is an Irish citizen? Or is he somehow negligent in not informing us that he loves America as well?
Furthermore, Brown Pride does not mean the same thing as White Pride. Historically disadvantaged ethnic groups, especially ethnomorphically distinct ones, often use such slogans as manifestations of solidarity, as only through solidarity can their common goals and rights be effectively pursued. The White counterpart is an expression of hatred and xenophobia. It is not so much the words themselves but their historical context which makes one more offensive than the other. Brown Pride does not have to mean "I hate white people" or "I wish I didn't have to see white people everywhere I go". But White Pride very often means that very thing when directed at minorities with it's subtext of racial purity and superiority.
By the way, Americans are a more tolerant and accepting people in the world. There's no reason why such a thing should have to be explained to you.

P.S. As a friend to good taste, I must say Brock's tattoo is much more offensive than Cain's.

I'm not sure why people are mad about the Brown Pride thing. He's not even saying anything bad about the US or saying Mexico is better than the USA. I'm sure he knows that the US is the BEST country in the world and appreciates the fact that he is an American

Brock will win this fight in the first round.
Anyone who has paid attention to my posts here will tell you I hate Brock Lesnar with a passion but I think Brock will run over "Brown Pride" and leave a Brown Skid Mark across the UFC Canvas.

I would tell the police that he looks like that dead guy on the ground with all the bullet holes in him.

but if I had to describe an alive Cain Velasquez I'd probably say, because I didn't have the opportunity to ask him for his I.D., that he's about 6 ft, 250 lb, athletic looking, brown skin, and has a head that looks like a Mayan Heiroglyph.

edit: just to make things clear and since I don't think I've said anything yet about his brown pride tattoo, Cain Velasquez is probably my second favorite heavyweight in the UFC behind Cro Cop, and the brown pride stuff doesn't bother me at all. I have no problem with people taking pride in their heritage and culture, just as long as they don't use it as an excuse to hate other people's heritage. I do think it's kind of silly though.

You were "taken aback" brock's coach said he hits hard? Didn't you see him turn the Texas crazy horse into the Texas tumble weed? Oh yeah, stack40 what people say if Brock had white pride on his chest?
El Guapo- October 14, 2010 at 2:23 pm
^They'd say "it was a big guy". After the cops asked if he was black, they'd say "no, a lighter shade of brown". After the cops ask if he was Mexican, they'd say... Hmmmm. Not sure what they would say, actually. But I'd love to hear it.
Stak40- October 14, 2010 at 1:59 pm
Dr. and all

Answer this

If you didnt know who Cain is and he walked into a bar, slapped your face sideways and left with your girl, when asked by the police for a description of the guy who just punked the shit out of you, what would you say?

I'm thinking somewhere in there the words BIG FUCKING MEXICAN probably would be said. Not Mexican American! So if he is viewed as a Mexican, parents were born and raised in Mexico, grew up in a Mexican community, why should he not consider himself Mexican or better yet have "Brown Pride?"

El Guapo- October 14, 2010 at 1:54 pm
That sure is alot of ass kissing, Asshole.
Stak40- October 14, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Shit when did Wilson get "comment security?" My assessment of him being a fucking idiot isnt just for his comment towards common sense but also for his first comment in his post and every other dumb shit thing he has said in the past. Not to say that he hasnt said some funny and intelligent things before. Maybe it was a moment of weakness. So Wilson can kiss my ass. Rex you can kiss his ass. And El you can kiss your own ass.
Dr.- October 14, 2010 at 1:50 pm
Funny, I thought Cain was born in America. His nationality states "American" but he says he is proud to be Mexican.

Yes, I know he is of Mexican descent. But he is not truly a Mexican. Plus, if you are SO proud of being just Mexican and Mexico in general - LIVE THERE.

I'm not even American but I laugh at the fact that NOT ONCE have I heard Cain say he's proud to be American or live in America. At least Tito had that stupid two-sided flag.

I was born in Canada but my parents were from other countries. I am Canadian and proud to be fucking Canadian.

I like Cain but it's retarded hype around being Mexican when you're not.
El Guapo- October 14, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Lighten up, folks, RWilson was joking. I think the misunderstanding stemmed from the fact his joke wasn't funny. If you're a regular like myself you'd realize his jokes are never funny, so you just kinda move along. Hey yo!

ReX13- October 14, 2010 at 1:05 pm
C'mon you guys, RWR was clearly joking and forgot to use the sarcasm font.
Elentius- October 14, 2010 at 12:43 pm
RwilsonR is pretty stupid. My wife would kick his ass if she heard that because she is one tough real Mexican chica US Army vet. Nog is Brazilian and they do not even speak Spanish foo!
Auramaster- October 14, 2010 at 12:35 pm
Yes, I was also confused by that.
RaymondClarence- October 14, 2010 at 12:35 pm

Yeah seriously dude. Maybe he's Puerto Rican and there's no Puerto Rican Youth Center in San Jose?
Stak40- October 14, 2010 at 12:27 pm
Mr. Wilson

I have tried for the past months to keep my comments specific to the article but you're a fucking idiot.
831 Father- October 14, 2010 at 12:22 pm
Man, you know, like, it was SO COOL when they showed Cain wrapping his hands. Amazing. I hope to see it again next week.
BryanF- October 14, 2010 at 11:50 am
...Anyone else a little confused by the black kid at the Mexican American Youth Centre?
Mike Russell- October 14, 2010 at 11:35 am
Ricco is of Puerto Rican and Mexican decent...
itsgalf- October 14, 2010 at 11:29 am
I don't believe that Brock won't be able to hang in rounds 4 and 5 normally. He does train like a beast also. However, Cain Velasquez does have a much better gas tank so if he just pours it on Brock for 3 full rounds, then maybe Brock will tire in the championship rounds.
RaymondClarence- October 14, 2010 at 11:18 am
I say Cain. I respect Brock and I think he is one of the most effective fighters in MMA today whether or not he's the most skilled. Still though, you can't go heads up with Brock. Carwin almost, but still a no no. The only way it seems to beat a building of a human being like Lesnar is to chip away at its foundation until it falls. Cain will be the first fighter with any type of real mobility adavantage he has faced. His wrestling skill will keep him from getting crushed. His speed, cardio, and superior striking skills will do the rest. I know everyone seems to think Brock and go ahead and slam me. There's my 2 cents.
RwilsonR- October 14, 2010 at 11:17 am
Well... if you only listened to Cain talk about it you would think he is Mexican, and not American. Ungrateful asshole!

Anyway, I think Brock has showed a decent amount of power in a couple of his fights, and I'm not surprised to hear that from Paulson. If he can get that much weight moving as quickly as he does, and learn a little bit of good technique then I imagine his punches hit like a frate train.

I just don't think Brock wants to make this a boxing match. He still doesn't seem like he takes it well when he gets hit.

@ common sense - I think Nogueira was the first Mexiacn champ. Cuban, Brazilian, Puerto Rican... aren't they all just Mexicans?
