Video: UFC Primetime: St-Pierre vs. Shields Episode 2

If you missed it, UFC Primetime was back last night with another episode featuring UFC 129 main event fighters Georges St-Pierre and Jake Shields.

The show focused more closely on the training regimens of both fighters and included snippets of GSP’s new gymnastics workout. I was hoping to there would be more of Shields sparring with Nick Diaz as he was in the gym helping the welterweight challenger prepare when they shot the footage of him training  with Gilbert Melendez featured on the show last night, but the Strikeforce welterweight champ has an aversion  to being on camera. There’s a rumor going around that he blasted “The Most Excited Interviewer in the World” for putting up training footage with the interviews he did with Shields a few weeks back and forced him to take the videos down.

All in all it was another decent episode, but the series would be much better without the tired cliches. It’s getting a little bit nauseating hearing how, “Shields will get the best Georges St-Pierre on April 30,” “GSP has never faced a grappler like Jake,” or “This is the toughest opponent of my career.” It seems that we hear the same thing from both camps before every fight.

It would be more entertaining to hear one of them say, “He sucks. Fighting him is almost a waste of my time. I’ve hardly trained because it’s going to be so easy. I’m going to beat him quickly so I can get a head start at pulling tail at the after party.”

Check out part two below.

I'm pretty sure the last guy that said GSP had no heart quit between rounds four and five of his chance to end GSP's title reign...BJ Penn.

shields IS good, but gassing and being unable to finish kampmann says something to me. i guess we will see on saturday which jake shield shows up. if shields starts believing all the hype about how he will wreck gsp on the ground.. then when the fight gets there and its even he better be ready for that too

I'm surprised theirs not more talk about Shields size. I think he will have a weight advantage like Alves but that weight is much more dangerous on a grappler then a striker so Shields is very dangerous in that respect. GSP said Fitch is like the terminator and I think Shields is even harder to put away or slow down, even gassed so badly he couldn't raise his arms after 15 minutes with Kampmann he still came out with the victory and he's professional enough to come into this fight without that problem over 25 minutes.
Shields is very very dangerous and everyone in GSP's camp was serious about him in the primetime show. GSP is still better but Shields has a better chance than anyone to capitalise on any mistake he makes.

8 Hour training sessions for shields...impressive..and only 5 of those spent in traffic!

Shields getting by Kampman the way he did says alot it says Kampman is a helluva fighter.. and Shields beat him.. so GSP is taking the right approach and I really do feel that shields is too one dimensional to win that one dimension is trained by a gracie so dont count him out.

I disagree with everyone passing shields off as nothing. You all did this during his fight with Hendo and opponents before that.

Gsp by Rape choke late in the 3rd.

I think GSP is the most complete, technical fighter in the game. Shields is a nice challenge for him, but too one dimensional to take his belt.

mDino is right. GSP is a monster. However, Cesar is not talking shit; Jake has a phenomenal ground game and it's his best chance at winning. I think GSP will pull out the victory with his stand up but Shields is the real deal. The fact that he barely squeaked by Kampmann doesn't mean anything.

Sounds like somebody misses ol Uncle Hypogonadism. It's ok, I miss him too.

gsp is a monster. cesar gracie is talking pure shit about jakes ground game.. he barely got by kampmann
LOKI- April 21, 2011 at 12:29 pm
Cesar tried to instigate by insinuating GSP has no heart and while a 'phenomenal athalete' he isnt really a tough guy.
At least if hes right and Georgez gets trouced and quits fighting all together, he always has a career in Cirqu-de-Solie(SP?)

Nick Diaz needs to calm the fuck down with how he deals with reporters. If he gets that bent out of shape by innocuous people like Ariel Helwani and that excited interviewer guy, God forbid he ever has to deal with a Jim Rome type. Dana is right, Nick needs to chill
