According to the profile on Anderson Silva in the current issue of Fight! magazine, the Spider actually started his MMA career 0-2; he lost his first match against Fabricio Marango before dropping a decision to Luis Azeredo, a fight that most databases list as his official debut. It wasn’t until Silva’s third attempt — a 66-second TKO of Jose Barreto at a Meca event in August 2000 — that the UFC’s current middleweight king tasted victory. The fight would be the first in a nine-fight win streak that saw him score victories over Hayato Sakurai, Roan Carneiro, and Carlos Newton, establishing him as an up-and-comer with enormous potential. Video of the Silva/Barreto fight is above. It ain’t much, but every legend has to start somewhere.
Below: A recent TV profile on Brock Lesnar, where a haggard-sounding, Busey-esque narrator takes us through Lesnar’s sporting life, beginning with some great footage of his college wrestling career.

commentscant believe how many MMA fans dont understand any thing about a variety or a MIXture of Martial Arts (MMA)
there is more to muay thai than Kimbo's thai style kicks!
if i go back a little ways, and i could be wrong, but didn't randy get a title shot after only 2-3 fights? and then he was considered one of the best. also came from a college wrestling backround. wow, thats weird. OOOOO thats right brock was in the WWE..... i forgot that. when he did that "fake shit" any chance of him doing anything worth while or half way decent went right out the window.
yea you guys are right, fuck this guy. he was in gay wrestling where they just dance around and arnt even the least bit athletic. who the hell is this guy coming into OUR sport and thinking he can actually hold his own. and if he can, its not like hes going to fight any one his size. because hot headed light heavy weights want to go into such a heavy weight class to prove they can hang in there with the big guys, and if they can't, at least they have something to blame losing on. sounds like a full proof plan to me.
soo... lets just say brock wins the rematch against Mir. i mean we all know its not going to happen, but lets just pretend. what will we tell everyone who doesnt know shit about mma to let them still know brock is no good. or will we cross that bridge when we get there? i mean its good to be prepared just incase. you never know, weirder things have happened. I.E. everyone NOT calling mir a douchbag the second his name is heard.

The reason I didn't join the forums is because I've seen better forum layouts when I had AOL 3.0 in 1999.
Anderson Silva had a goofy ass stance back in the day.
Brock Lesnar is fuckin' man. How can you hate on a guy that quit a job were he made millions so that he could compete for real in the octagon. I feel sorry for Frank Mir. He could pull it off again, but I don't think it's likely.
