MMA Scraps dug up the above video of Randy Couture‘s first-ever UFC fight, which took place at UFC 13 (5/30/97; Augusta, Georgia) against Tony “The Viking” Halme, a former pro-wrestler who made a completely unsuccessful run at being a mixed martial artist. This was Halme’s fourth and final pro MMA fight after three losing appearances in Rings. After Couture made short work of Halme, he went on to score a TKO over Steven Graham the same night, winning the event’s heavyweight bracket.
Below: I don’t want to call BJ Penn a bitch, because clearly he isn’t — I mean, his record speaks for itself. I’m just saying that the sounds he makes while putting up 150 pounds in the gym are somewhat bitch-like. He’s like the Maria Sharapova of free-weights. But I do like the GSP-directed dig his wrestling coach gets in at the end: “You don’t have Hollywood agents reprensentin’ ya, man. commentsWell because he's in the top 5, he can't beat himself. But if you go five people below him, he has wins over Gomi(5) and Sherk(6). So yes he doesn't have a win over someone in the top five, and multiple wins over people 5 ranks below him.
It's just when he leaves the lightweight division that he gets sloppy. He also seems to get fat and slow. Just like GSP he's a master at his division. Unlike A. Silva who can probably enter HW at only 206 and still beat some guys.
but seriously..they are both much different fighters then the first fight with Penn breaking GSP's nose and scratching his face up, GSP did take Penn down at will and squeezed out the decsion....
that being said, find videos of the way GSP trains and conditions himself on a regular basis let alone being in camp for the 8 weeks before a fight, he travels all the time to different trainers/teams in the States, Brazil and here in Canada
the guy is a machine that will set a pace that BJ will not be able to maintain....this will be a much different fight then the first one
