Videos: The Enemy Speaks, Ryan Couture Scores His Second Win + More

CagePotato readers Jeb R. and Jamie sent in the above footage of Bob "Boooooooo!" Reilly‘s press conference from Friday, in which the New York Assemblyman compared MMA to prostitution, argued that the sport would actually be economically harmful to the state, and claimed that it would breed more violence in society. All incredibly valid points from a well-informed, not-at-all-senile government official. (Reilly also says that he could fill the Pepsi Arena for a dogfight, which, if that’s true, he might consider leaving the bureaucracy field for the more glamorous and lucrative world of fight promotion.) It’s one thing to read about this joker on our website; it’s quite another to hear these specious non-arguments come out of his mouth. Again, sign our petition if you haven’t yet for some reason, and if you can keep your emotions in check and your arguments high-minded, feel free to get in touch.

Below: Randy Couture‘s son Ryan increased his amateur MMA record to 2-0 on February 15th with this second-round submission victory over fellow lightweight Art Martinez at a Tuff-N-Uff event in Las Vegas; the fight starts at the 3:48 mark. Watch as Couture almost locks in a triangle in the first round, then an armbar, but Martinez manages to survive until the bell. (Damn those two-minute rounds.) It’s all good, though — Couture immediately takes advantage of some bad positioning by Martinez in the second frame, and it’s tap or nap.

After the jump: UFC announcer Mike Goldberg unwinds after Saturday’s show by working some Muay Thai combos with a training partner. In a crowded bar.

So there was a guy in the bar with pads? Multiple concussions do seem to affect the thinking...

Bob Reilly for douche bag of the year!
Richard Wad- February 25, 2009 at 10:50 pm
That old-fashioned douchebag has obviously never actually watched a UFC event. What a judgemental scumbag.

For one thing, he's so worried about the violence and injuries to the participants and another thing he is trying to bring up is the effect of seeing this violence will have on kids. How many kids does he think watches this compared to pro wrestling? Those guys are also willing participants and get injured frequently, if not more. Still legal. The difference between the two also is if a kid is going to imitate wrestling, they might think it's okay because they see the person get up easily after wards. The person might be hurt, but it's his job to make it look worse than it is. MMA, what you see is truth. If they're KO'd, that is what it is. No mistake or interpretation. The difference with casinos is that casinos are in a fixed location. MMA isn't. That would make the economical effect no different than a concert or any other sporting event. Dog fighting is to the death, MMA has rules in place for quick stoppage. The part about sitting on a guy and punching him in the face doesn't go on and on for minutes at a time. If it goes to the point that the person can't defend themselves, it's stopped. By a third party who is trained to look and interpret that very thing in the sport. Too late for not looking too moralistic, too bud.

That guy is not making any sense. The basic fact is that it will bring in more $$$ to the state, mma is safer than boxing and if he's so against mma he should be out in the streets shutting down any other fight-based sports. You can't take a stand against mma and say you approve of boxing.

I agree w/ fourTwenty. This guy would crumble if asked the proper questions on the issues. Plus I'd like to hear why it's supposedly bad for NY's economy. There's bound to be a few gems of genius in that justification.

Online petitions never accomplish anything. Ever.

Look at how terrible Goldberg's technique is. He's hitting his with palms, not putting his hips behind his elbows. He must know how to use his hips.

And I'd like to extend a challenge to Mr. Reily. I'm 22 with I'm certain less of an education than him and I smoke lots of weed daily. I Still bet I could make this dude look highly retarded in a F2F debate. If someone would get him in front of a camera and just hit him with some simple, basic facts he'd have a whole breakfast on his face.
punchguyinface- February 25, 2009 at 9:38 am
Bob Reily is misinformed. We all have violent tendencies, and we need outlets for these feelings. MMA is one such outlet, and it teaches honor and respect for fighting and other fighters.

Reily's biggest problem with MMA is that he gets a raging erection every time he sees two sweaty buff men locked in a guard position.

I want to see one of Goldberg's tai-bo elbows go in Bob's mouth. This politician is a symptom of the weakness that is becoming prevalent in our society. Men of strength and courage are rarely welcome in our political system anymore. Washington, Lincoln, and Jackson were all renowned catch wrestlers and would today be considered uncivilized in most political circles. Cowards do not know how to deal with or face strong men, so they hide behind safety and propriety in law; while the patriot stands up whether there is law to protect him or not. Leaders were once conquerers, but today are mostly spineless p*ssies like this guy. He can't even say what he thinks like he's got a pair. F@ck him and anyone who would vote to put this f@g in charge of anything. Vote for p*ssy leaders you get p*ssy rules, sorry. PIPO. My rant is complete, thank you for your patience.

Am I the only one who sees Bob Reilly as the living version of the Reverend Shaw Moore from Footloose?

Thoughts- February 25, 2009 at 7:31 am
So wait, a politician talking about corrupt practices...

I think his argument would have sounded better if he had a tye-dye shirt on and a hemp necklace. "Yo that weasel snagged the B..."

Randy is so humble and down to earth that I imagine his son must be the same way. But Ryan is gonna have a rough time making a dent in this sport with everyone knowing that he's the son of The Natural.
Fuck a Bob.
Aptninja- February 25, 2009 at 7:22 am
I like that his three reasons are 1) MMA is violent, 2) it's going to be economically harmful to the state, like casinos and 3) the violence. At least his opposition to casinos is well-argued. Also, "If you look at any psychological study, these studies show that violence begets violence, with adults, with children." Which scientific study, exactly, determined the connection between violence and violence? What was the numerical correlation there, between violence and violence?
CanadianProduce- February 25, 2009 at 7:22 am
And it might just be me...but the level of production for amatuer fights in Vegas is a looooot different from anywhere pays to have Randy Couture as your Dad and to live in Vegas.

Its obvious that Goldie doesn't get invited to the GOOD after parties. Looked like a sausage fest.
