At long last, we present the video of Wednesday’s grappling exhibition between Fedor Emelianenko and Shinya Aoki at DEEP/M-1 Challenge 3rd Edition. As you’ll see, the whole thing was really just a good-natured joke, with both fighters putting on a display that was more slapstick than combat. (But man do Emelianenko’s throws look smooth when they’re done with a 160-pound training dummy.) Fun stuff. Now let’s see the UFC do this with Lesnar and Penn…

MMA highlight-film virtuoso Genghis Con has released previews of some of his works-in-progress in this ultra-slick "Coming Attractions" reel, featuring
Satoru Kitaoka, Katsuyori Shibata, Mitsuhiro Ishida, Andre Dida, Artur Kyshenko, Miguel Torres, and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. In particular, the Cro Cop-themed final segment ("Maniac Cop 7") already looks epic.

The video quality sucks, but here’s footage of Don Frye‘s victorious appearance at Shark Fights 4 on Saturday, in which the Predator finished Rich Moss via rear-naked choke, 2:12 into round 1. TUF 7 vet Jesse Taylor also picked up his fifth-straight victory at the event, dispatching Eric DaVila by first-round rear-naked choke; JT Money is undefeated since being caught in CB Dollaway‘s "Peruvian Necktie" last July. You can read a more detailed recap of the Shark Fights event here.

I think the Gracie nuthuggers are going to have to deal with the fact that Sambo’s ground game with all its joint locks makes it just as efficient as BJJ while the other parts of it like standup are much superior to BJJ.
Considering both BJJ and Sambo come from judo, it shouldn’t be a surprise and its interesting to see how these two offshoots evolved in the past 80-90 years.
I think Fedor was carrying a few extra pounds and didnt want to flash the cottage cheese gams because the Sambo gi is worn with short shorts not the TKD ones.
As far as any randori is concerned where the participants are going at half speed, this was pretty much what was expected with at least 2-3 moments where you just went “Ni-i-i-i-ce”.
Fedor’s top hebe said that he will most likely fight in Japan in July or August which should fall right about the time of DREAM 10 on July 20.
