UFC welterweight Jon Fitch stopped by Mythbusters last week to help the gang test the idea that a person could realistically escape a live burial Kill Bill-style by punching their way out of the coffin then crawling upwards through six feet of dirt. All right kids everyone sit down and let me edumacate you in some physics. The reason why the Lbs per square inch were so high is that fitch was punching against the floor, ergo his body would not go backwards as he hit the bag, add that to the fact that the bag was above him and all the weight of gravity pushing downwards on the bag meant that it was pushing at its weight toward the punch. So if it was a 200 lb bag it would have registered 200 pounds if you just pushed the bag away from the ground. Tuf Guy I like your veins theyre very veiny.

the show Sportscience did an episode on punching power, they had some hockey brawler and Heavyweight boxer Chris boyd and Rampage. to my recollection both the hockey player and boyd came in around 1300-1400lbs of force and rampage came in at 1900. These punches were thrown while standing. If Fitch puts up nearly 1400 off his back, that is amazing.

Interesting expisode. However, I’d like to have seen Fitch’s force compared to the punching force of the others, like Kari, Grant, and the other dude. 1400lbs of force sounds like a good amount, but how much is it really? TUF G@Y has a nuthugger.
