Videos: K-1 World GP Ends in Disqualification Fiasco
Badr Hari VS Remy Bonjasky K1 World GP 2008
by kalash67
Despite getting off to a great start, last night's K-1 World GP Finals ended in bizarre fashion, with Badr Hari getting disqualified for illegally taking Remy Bonjasky down and then attacking him while he was under the referee's care, finally stomping on his head before being shoved off by the ref. At first Hari looked like he'd just receive a yellow card, but with Bonjasky complaining of double-vision, the bout was stopped and Bonjasky declared the winner via disqualification.
Upon further review, the illegal blows don't look so bad. But that's easy for me to say since I didn't take them. Bonjasky's the guy who fought his way into the finals and was taking it to Hari for much of the first round, so you have to give him the benefit of the doubt as a tough bastard who would've continued if he could.
You hate to see it end that way, especially considering what a great show it was up until that point. If you're wondering how Kimbo Slice did in his commentating duties, you can check out the reply on HDNet tonight. Or you can take my word for it that he didn't say much, but did manage to slip in there how much he loved "the city of Japan." That's right.
A couple more videos from the K-1 World Grand Prix 2008 after the jump.

Kimbo is a monkey and belongs in the city of Africa
Babalu Says:
Another hot day....in the city....
No need for that DQ.
wtf Says:
no need for that DQ...? badr showed bad intentions and sportsmanship when throwing a late left at the end of the 1st and walking away staring like hes some schoolyard bully, maybe if he threw one punch on the ground but a heel stomp! would have rather seen bonjasky knock him the fuck out but the shamed look on his face like he got news that he has the clap was justice enough.
Anonymous Says:
There was definately a need for a DQ.
There are rules there for the safety of the fighter, and they should be enforced, at all times.
If someone is in that sport who cant control their temper, they should get disqualified, immediately. And fined / banned from the sport.
This isnt a dangerous sport because of all these rules, if we let inbred monkeys like badr hari run around stomping ppl when they are down, it gets dangeroes.
Tommy2tymes Says:
i smell a rematch

@wtf, I think you missed babalu's point.

I actually like it when fighters really want to hurt each other. However, doing it in a fashion that goes beyond the limits of what the sport allows is wrong. Don't represent your sport that way, and don't do that to your own fans. When you're in the ring or the cage you know full well of what will get you in trouble and what won't so why bother unless it's unintentional?
If you're gonna settle some beef like that do it Crazy Horse/Chute Boxxe style, which is backstage, and sanctioned by your teammates.
Farthammer Says:
You'd think a fighter of Kimbo's stature would prefer the country of Tokyo to the city of Japan.

Wes Simms vs Badr Hari
djWHEAT Says:
I'm actually pretty new to K-1 aside from watching a few single fights recommended by others...
Was the illegal takedown because he had grabbed his leg after the kick?
Jameson Says:
Fuck Badr Hari, seriously. He was frustrated because he couldn't do anything with Bonjasky. Bonjasky hit him and Hari was knocked down, and as most people know, if you lose the first round to Bonjasky, you lose. Bonjasky was landing on the leg as he did in the first fight, and then scored a knockdown. Bonjasky wasn't gonna open up and take Hari's punches and Hari resorted to being a bastard. Hari was fighting a near perfect tournament up until he flipped his shit. He was losing the fight, but he was rallying.
Perhaps it was because Bonjasky attempted the flying knee when Hari looked dazed before the knockdown. Who knows?
To be honest, does this really ruin a great night of fights? Bonjasky was probably going to win, and was winning anyway.
Let us remember the good parts: Rib busting flying kick, Ray Sefo dancing in Hong-Man Choi's face and landing an incredible spinning back fist; pyrotechnics, Saki's spinning back fist, Errol Zimmerman's entrance, knockouts, Manhoef's somewhat gay but ultimately cool S&M esque entrance, tons of back and forth action with a multitude of clean punches and knockdowns and spinning back kicks, and a self destruction unparalleled in combat sports.

Remy deserves the win. The fight with LeBanner is nice. Remy's punching style seems strange. I noticed he comes over the top wtih alot of his punches, both jabs and crosses. Is this just a more Muay Thai approach to punching instead of a boxer's approach?
WAR BONG Says:
Badr was just pissed cuz he couldn't buy a vowel.
Anonymous Says:
The first round knockdown was the biggest bitchslap I've ever seen.
Anonymous Says:
Well Remy did the same thing against Bob Sapp a few years back. I don't know, it does seem weak, but everything I read about him is that he's trly a great guy. I'll take his word for it.
the other brother Says:
What a thug. Would love to see him and Kimbo fight!
Anonymous Says:
I don't know what everyone else is looking at but those were two hard shots to the side of the head, one being a stomp ... can't blame the guy ... he didn't seem to happy about his win by DQ ... judging by the fact he was crying ... Badr was wholly losing that fight and knew it ... so he took some cheap shots

krazy pony Says:
Looks like Badr wants to be an ultimate fighter!
sajkool Says:
seriously, bard'r fucking pwned his opponent, sure he did some bad shit, but is his opponent really worth to be a champion cuz of been stomped in the head? thats bullshit, make this game no contest!
Jameson Says:
If by throwing a lot of punches and not landing any while getting knocked down means winning a fight, then I guess Hari was winning.
Giant Douche Says:
re k1 FINAL shit appens man
Giant Douche Says:
additional re K1 could it be that Badr was still affected by concussion suffered in earlier round on same night , or is he just a fatherless bastard with serious issues.
gesus Says:
@sajkool
no contest in the final of the k-1 gp? not a chance.
Anonymous Says:
You are allowed to kick the opponent leg one time if you grab the other leg, and if that swips your opponent it scores points. But if you throw ore push it doesn`t score points like it does in muay thai. But if you don`t follow a throw up, you don`t get a warning.
Anonymous Says:
Yes, it is old scool muay thai. You see how high he carry`s the guard, that is how muay thai fighters used to do it, some still do. But the influence of western fighters has made most muay thai fighters use a more basic boxing guard.
MaskedMan Says:
Badr Hari like a money

Anybody know where to see the Oscar Manny fight for free online
B Says:
Oiii Badr took Remy down like my ex-girflriend on a peckah!
fetter Says:
off-topic: wow is this the true djWHEAT?
ontopic: that deserved a DQ. It was a bummer, the event was being great until that. I think he tried to find the easy way out to be honest...
MMA Web Design Says:
Saw the k-1 finals and Bonjansky is a great big cry baby. Stand up, shake off your boots and keep going. Dude can take direct blows to the head staning up, but when knicked on the ground he gets double vision. C'mon.
Toxic Says:
MMA Web: Its his job to take hits standing up. If that doubles the vision, so be it.
But he shouldn't be expected to continue when he is severely handicapped by a blatantly illegal blow. That encourages illegal behavior.
Hari cheated, he got DQ's. Frankly it should have happened whether Remy was hamming it up or not.
Anonymous Says:
From what i've heard it wasnt Remy who wanted to win the fight by DG, but it was a decision made by the Refree for Hari's wrong doings. Though i expected the fight to go on.
overall it was a great event with some fire works. I wonder what Semmy is thinking now... oh and Peter Aerts who beat Semmy to get to the WGP then to lose to a guy like Hari.
Hari seriously needs to fuckin grow up! omg
Anonymous Says:
What an absolute child Badr Hari is. He is losing a fight to a guy who beat him before so his response is to freak out and get himself DQ.
You dont stomp your opponent in a standing rules fight unless you want out. The chances of hurting your opponent are pretty high with it, Hari definitely threw that stomp with bad intentions. Actually turned out good for Hari that Remy did not look that injured (key word is "look")
Badr Hari has always had the reputation for having the mental make up of a 13 year old.
Kuato Says:
I'm not happy that the ending was via DQ, but I am happy that Bonjasky won in the end. I was becoming a fan of Hari, but DAMN what a crappy attitude for a fighter to have! He got all pissy because Remy knocked him down in the 1st. I'm not opposed to a rematch of course, especially if Hari gets his act together.
Jugger Says:
I love to watch LeBanner fight. The leg kicks he and Remy were trading sounded like baseball bats wailing on a butchered cow. I also enjoy watching Badr fight. The guy doesn't look big when he's out of the ring, but when he gets in there and you size him up against other big dudes, you see that he really is a beast! His gangsta/rapper/douchebag vibe is little over the top. I find that hard to stomach.
Oscar-worthy acting on Remy's part? Only he will ever know. Fact is, if that fight had been allowed to continue, what would ever discourage Badr from doing that garbage again? He deserved to lose regardless of whether Remy was truly wounded or not. Remy could'a said, "Hey, I'm fine. Let's continue," and the ref could'a said, "Nope, I'm DQing this bastard for that crap," and I would'a said, "Dam straight."
Kuato Says:
BTW, here is Badr getting KO'd like you wouldn't belive before his K-1 career.
Anonymous Says:
@djWHEAT: the takedown wasn't what was illegal. You can catch a leg and strike your opponent in K-1. The illegal thing was that once your opponent does go down, you go away and the fight is stood up. There is absolutely no ground fighting allowed. Badr's strike while Remy was down was bad enough as it is, but when he followed it up with a head stomp while being pushed away by the referee, I thought there was no possible way to allow the fight to continue. That's a clear disqualification. And it's disappointing, because I've always been a fan of Badr's.

Kimbo haters are a fucking joke, and Badr Hari is a dirty piece of shit.

You're a douche and belong in the city of pussy, pussy. Also, Africa is a continent dumbass. Stop wasting tax dollars and go learn something inbreed.

This is a city.

vrane Says:
It was a joke man. Kimbo called Japan a city... remember?
Participant Says:
Looks like there was some bad blood between Badr and Remy. Badr couldn't control himself to turn off the switch and cost him the fight. All that work to get to the finals for a DQ.
Besides that, I'm loving K-1, great fights!
Zee German Says:
Funny how Badr were putting the mouth piece back in after gettin DQed. Like he was saying: Alright, now take it to the parking lot.
Looks like he wanted to recommend himself to Japanese MMA.
Miguel Torres Says:
As for Badr Hari, " Yes he deserves to die and I hope he burns in hell"

In related news, Cecil Peoples judged this fight and ruled it a knockout victory.

Calvin P Says:
Badr was an angry fighter= not good. Champion comes with calm mind and heart. He may have the skill and may even win here and there. But to be a champ consistently you must reveal the heart of a champ not a thuggish behavior like that. If you can't control your emotion, how can you be a true champion? Fefor alwasy calm so is Crocop. Gegard Mousassi is very calm before, during and after a fight, He show what what is like to be a champ. Badr should meditate to reach to the next level. Buty I doubt that Badr will ever reach that. Next fight he's going so angrier and will lose it again. He should walk over and appologize, show the world a real man inside him...BUt he won't find that real man insde, it's burried so deep in that he may never be the same again
Blackleg Says:
jesus christ, wtf happened to LeBanner?! He's looks like he's so chock full 'o roids I'd probably test positive just from watching that clip.
WAR Remy Bonjasky, still the best fighter name to yell as loud as you can.
