Badr Hari VS Remy Bonjasky K1 World GP 2008
by kalash67
Despite getting off to a great start, last night’s K-1 World GP Finals ended in bizarre fashion, with Badr Hari getting disqualified for illegally taking Remy Bonjasky down and then attacking him while he was under the referee’s care, finally stomping on his head before being shoved off by the ref. At first Hari looked like he’d just receive a yellow card, but with Bonjasky complaining of double-vision, the bout was stopped and Bonjasky declared the winner via disqualification.
Upon further review, the illegal blows don’t look so bad. But that’s easy for me to say since I didn’t take them. Bonjasky’s the guy who fought his way into the finals and was taking it to Hari for much of the first round, so you have to give him the benefit of the doubt as a tough bastard who would’ve continued if he could.
You hate to see it end that way, especially considering what a great show it was up until that point. If you’re wondering how Kimbo Slice did in his commentating duties, you can check out the reply on HDNet tonight. Or you can take my word for it that he didn’t say much, but did manage to slip in there how much he loved "the city of Japan." That’s right.
A couple more videos from the K-1 World Grand Prix 2008 after the jump.

commentsAre you for real? Looking at the footage, Remy throws about 3 punches the entire round with 3 landing. He throws 4 kicks (2 of which were more defensive strikes), one real kick lands, the other is the knee/shin that Badr decided to go to the ground to duck.
Badr hit Remy with a good shot on the exchange that had him go down. From what I was looking at, Remy was the more inactive of the two fighters and yes he did score a knocked but it was hardly a case of him "taking it to Hari".
Hari did not look like himself in the first round, super-tentative even though he threw more shots than Bonjasky. It looked like he wanted to get DQ'd with his antics, which is bullshit.
Piss-poor of him to hit late after the 1st round and trying to strike and stomp your downed opponent?! That's just retarded. Unless you didn't truly want to lose to Remy by legitimate means.
And true, Remy was the one who took the shots on the ground, even if they questionably landed. But he was also taking the shots in the 2nd while standing up. I think he used the out as well, then acted disappointed when the official word came in. Oscar worthy.
WAR Remy Bonjasky, still the best fighter name to yell as loud as you can.
perfectly said
lmao.
Looks like he wanted to recommend himself to Japanese MMA.
Besides that, I'm loving K-1, great fights!

This is a city.

Oscar-worthy acting on Remy's part? Only he will ever know. Fact is, if that fight had been allowed to continue, what would ever discourage Badr from doing that garbage again? He deserved to lose regardless of whether Remy was truly wounded or not. Remy could'a said, "Hey, I'm fine. Let's continue," and the ref could'a said, "Nope, I'm DQing this bastard for that crap," and I would'a said, "Dam straight."
You dont stomp your opponent in a standing rules fight unless you want out. The chances of hurting your opponent are pretty high with it, Hari definitely threw that stomp with bad intentions. Actually turned out good for Hari that Remy did not look that injured (key word is "look")
Badr Hari has always had the reputation for having the mental make up of a 13 year old.
overall it was a great event with some fire works. I wonder what Semmy is thinking now... oh and Peter Aerts who beat Semmy to get to the WGP then to lose to a guy like Hari.
Hari seriously needs to fuckin grow up! omg
But he shouldn't be expected to continue when he is severely handicapped by a blatantly illegal blow. That encourages illegal behavior.
Hari cheated, he got DQ's. Frankly it should have happened whether Remy was hamming it up or not.
ontopic: that deserved a DQ. It was a bummer, the event was being great until that. I think he tried to find the easy way out to be honest...
