Videos: PRIDE’s Greatest Knockouts, Shane Carwin on UFC 89 + More

(Props: MMA Scraps)

This 18-minute compilation is the only PRIDE highlight reel you’ll ever need, featuring the most brain-rattling finishes by Aleksander and Fedor Emelianenko, Alistair Overeem, Mirko Cro Cop, Dan Henderson, Quinton Jackson, Wanderlei Silva, Sergei Kharitonov, Joachim Hansen and many more. Listen closely at the 8:27-8:30, 8:47-8:50, and 17:47-17:50 marks to hear early versions of Frank Trigg‘s “Oh! Oh no! Oh no!” catchphrase that he perfected during the Fedor/Sylvia fight.

Speaking of dudes who knock people dead, here’s heavyweight rising star Shane Carwin discussing his fight against the noticeably smaller Neil Wain at UFC 89 this Saturday. Carwin is currently 9-0, with all wins coming via first-round stoppage, and all but one of those stoppages happening within the first two minutes.

Something short, simple, and hilarious awaits you after the jump…

What the fuck is a Carwin? Sounds like some third rate Korean eletroinics knockoff instead of a some roided third rate HW who will probably get a title shot because of the sad state of UFC HW division. Thank god the brits have their own third rate fighter ready for Carwin. And considering that the headliners are 2nd rate fighters, people will get their money's worth for 8.99$. Awesome videos. Oh where have all the HWs gone?

What % of the guys receiving the KOs were scrub japanese fighters? Wait, is "scrub japanese fighter" being redundant?
  9. Patrick Says:

    Sun, 10/12/08 - 10:16

Something about seeing a guy win a fight via face stomps and soccer kicks just doesn't really excite or impress me very much in the slightest.

Those soccer kicks and head stomps are pretty brutal...I'm all for it. Though how anyone is supposed to be 'intelligently defending' themselves AND getting kicked in the head while on the ground all at once...beyond me.

Wow. Great highlight video. It's funny that someone mentioned scrub japanese fighters because i was thinking halfway through it "my god everyone getting knocked out is asain". With the exception of Gomi i guess. I was also thinking about the foot stomps and knees to the head of a downed opponent while watching it. I used to think i liked Prides rules far better than those of the UFC. I am either becoming old and lame or UFC has brainwashed me because it seemed too brutal. The knees to the back of the head to a downed opponent while driving all of the fighters weight into it seems very dangerous. Did the UFC just make up the back of the head rule or am i crazy and it isn't all that dangerous? Also, what the hell is with those refs. They obviously weren't trained in intelligent defense because there were plenty of times when the fighter was clearly knocked out, the winning fighter is beggining to celebrate and then realizes that the ref isnt calling it until he hits hima few more times to make sure. And then the cave man comes out in me and says F*&^ IT! Stomp the shit out of him! Great Video.

There are far too many fickle little ignorant teenaged freaks into MMA .. as evidenced by all of their ultra biased posts on forums and places like this. Carwin will murder Wain ... who's "puncher's chance" is nil and next to none. Kimbo=unskilled backyard brawler with a very bad chin ... Carwin=legit NCAA II Wrestling National Champion HWT (1999) and 2x NCAA II All-American in Football. The tongue in cheek style of this site is sometimes rather annoying ... especially when the points attempting to be made aren't even close to being valid. Again, Kimbo=sucks ... Carwin=legit high level athlete.

The UFC did put in that rule so MMA could become legal and regulated in more states. That is essentially what helped UFC get off the ground and maintain success so they could bring their show to a wider audience.

Christ I wish people would stop quoting College/High/Elementary school wrasslin' trophies as if they were some kind of measure of fighting ability. I'll start giving a shit about who was one of the 50 NCAA champ of blah for whatever weight class in whatever by-gone fucking time span when they start allowing knees and elbows.

The Pride highlight is GREAT. Not that the current days of MMA are too shabby, but I do look at the Pride era as "the good ole' days." Seeing Americans like Mezger, Hendo, and especially Chuck and Jens makes my spine tingle. There's just something about seeing those guys on an "international stage" that made it all seem so freakin' EPIC. Best beat-down? Aleks swarming Morais like a pack of killer bees.
