Randy Couture Trains for Brock Lesnar – Watch more free videos

In preparation for his bout with Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 on Nov. 15, Randy Couture is doing just about the only thing you can: tussling with big wrestler-types. He looks to be handling them pretty well in this video. Then again, none of these dudes is Brock Lesnar. Just saying.

Below, Chael Sonnen absolutely refuses to complain about his somewhat controversial loss to Paulo Filho and talks about his plan for this Wednesday’s WEC rematch.

Better get someone that a little bigger to spare with.

This matchup makes me think of Gunny vs Johansen from Heartbreak Ridge.

Couture by KO in the 1st.

yes lesnars chin has been tested:

Has Lesnar's chin been tested yet?
If not, can Randy weather the storm long enough to get inside and put some leather on it? I don't think Randy is overrated, but his carrer has had some rough patches. I think he is focussed and ready for the fight. I just don't think the matchup is favorable for him.

I know Lesnar hasn't shown much striking, but that straight right hand to a lesser-than-Randy opponent in Heath Herring was devastating. I mean he back sommersaulted across the cage with a broken orbital bone.

On the other hand, Randy took an over hand right from Chuck that is still a highlight reel KO.

Lesnar hits like a mack truck, lets just hope that Randy doesn't get that doe-in-the-headlights look and eat a right hand. I want my money's worth after that last disappointing PPV from the UFC.

...don't get me started on Cote!

I agree completely. I think that Couture has good stand-up and Brock will have to respect that. However, once put in the corner, everyone resorts to their strength. I think if Randy starts getting the better of Lesnar, Brock will take him down and try to hold him there; doing just enough to keep the refs from standing them up.

Lesnar by Split Decision...

I like Randy, and think he is a world-class athlete, but I honestly believe Brock will be too much in this one. His size, and strength will serve him well. I believe that sylistically and experience wise Couture could dominate Brock. However, Broock is no one to be taken lightly.

Sure, Couture can probably take him down but can he keep him down???
I don't think so. This may be reflective of a Kimbo/Thompson fight I watched once.

Chael seems like a nice guy. He's right, he didn't tap in that last fight, but he either would of had his arm torn off or had to tap eventually. No way in hell he was getting out of that armbar.

Damn this really is not looking good for Randy. Those guys he was sparring with look like couch potatoes compared to Brock. The only way I can see him winning this is by submission a la Frank Mir. Lesnar's probably going to win purely on his size and power. Goddamn Randy please beat this son of a bitch.

1. randy is not over-rated
2. lesnar will destroy randy (probably)

When I heard about this fight the first thing that popped in my head was - clear victory for Lesnar. The more I thought about it the more I saw Couture winning it. At this point although Brock stands more then a decent chance, I would have to give the edge to Randy.
I wanted to say that if Brock would lose on decision he should have earned the respect of some critics out there, with going 5 rounds against "the Natural". But for some reason no matter which one of them wins I can't see this one ending on decision. For me its either 1) Randy on TKO or sub 2) Brock on KO or TKO.

Either way I can't wait for the commentator to say "and here we go!"

Side step and a knee or a kick to the face to Lesnars Face would be nice. :P
B2thaRad- November 3, 2008 at 2:42 am
Look, I like the Natural as much as the next guy but he is one of the most overrated fighters in MMA history. Go ahead and start your bashing. I know its coming. If you would just choose to face reality and stop being fed what the UFC wants you to believe you can look at his record and his fights and see that he is no where near the level of Fedor. If Lesnar was 6'1 and 230 I would give Randy the edge but Lesnar is a monster and Randy can train with whoever he wants but nobody he trains with will prepare him for Lesnar.

I know Lesnar is big and scary but Randy ant no small fry either. Randys brain power in making those game plans and working on hes oppoents weakness is a skill most fighters can't seem to learn. It gonna be Lesnar loss by submission or decision.
Sodak- November 3, 2008 at 1:17 am
Captain America!!!!!!! go randy. by the way doesn't chael know screaming like a girl constitutes a tap?
KarateKid- November 3, 2008 at 12:59 am
I cant wait till its over and he wins and shuts all these people up including lesner.I hate people bring age into this, 45 is old but its not that old specially if u been a fighter ur whole life and kept in shape and in coutures case i think he has.
Brandon- November 3, 2008 at 12:27 am
Sorry, Lesnar will take this one :(

I don't want him to win either, but this is the same as a 45 year old bantamweight fighter taking on a middleweight fighter with superb wrestling skills
JTho- November 3, 2008 at 12:10 am
Jugger, you may be right; if you are I'll eat crow.

NCAA wrestling is legit. Mir was getting stomped before he pulled out a submission which saved his ass. I see Lesnar riding couture like he rode Heath for three rounds. No sprawl in the world is going to keep Brock from getting a double-leg.

Don't underestimate Randy's age. I hear he actually carries his AARP card on his person these days.
KarateKid- November 2, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Randys going to own brock! hes never lost a fight he was deemed to lose as the under dog... just watch size doesnt matter its all about mind set, stratagie and skill which i dont see in brock.Couture will be expose what brock really is over muscled fool who doesnt deserve a shot at the belt, used to bring in money in UFC:91..
Jugger- November 2, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Randy will win and then in hind-sight we'll all wonder why we gave a terribly green, inexperienced, NCAA wrestler with only 2 real MMA fights under his belt (1 of them a loss) a shot against a savvy, world-renowned, experienced, fight-game-genius-of-a-legend like Randy Couture.

Then we'll act all smart and say, "I can't believe people fell for the UFC's hype machine again. Ya'll was so stupid to think strength and weight is more important than knowledge and technique. Didn't you learn anything at UFC 1? Randy took this fight because he knew he could win, just like when he came out of retirement to beat the now-exposed Sylvia."
JTho- November 2, 2008 at 11:43 pm
I really can't see Randy winning this fight. Especially if his Lesnar-like partners wrestle like that; Brock is just too big and too strong.

I'm actually more excited for this fight than I was for Fedor/Tim, if that's possible.
lickmyfart- November 2, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Randy is going to crush Lesnar 10 times worse than this fat dude he's messing with in the vid. Crush him like a bug!
John Kimble- November 2, 2008 at 11:25 pm
I dunno, is it just me or does Randy's sparring partner seem nothing like brock lesnar? Brock punches to set up shots, this dude just kinda ambles around and lets randy dictate the fight to him. Is this how pre fight sparring is supposed to work?

I heard he was working with Shane Carwin, who i think would do a better job than a dude that looks outta shape and can't seem to make up his mind on what he's doing.

Maybe it's just me.

100% class from Chael Sonnen
