Videos: UFC 93 Countdown + Danablog #1
(Props: BloodyElbow)
Though it won't be televised in the U.S. for some inexplicable reason, the UFC taped a "Countdown" special for #93 that is airing in the U.K. on Setanta Sports and on UFC.com. Here's part one, which covers the long-awaited meeting of Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson. 8:56-9:33 is pretty priceless; Ace seems to be taking interview cues from the Forrest Griffin school of deadpan humor. You can check out parts 2-5 on the UFC Direct Videos YouTube channel for more pre-fight trash-talk, as well as the origin story of Mauricio Rua and the improbable comeback story of Mark Coleman.

Even though TUF 9 still hasn't locked down their Team U.S. coach, Dana White reveals in his new video blog that taping of the first two episodes is already kicking off at Wolfslair Academy. Also, this Wednesday will see the premiere of UFC Primetime, the hype-show for St. Pierre vs. Penn 2. (Also known as "The Baddest Motherfucking Countdown Show You Will Ever See.") Now that that's out of the way, we can focus on the action — a wild, driving vs. walking race through the streets of Manhattan, Dana making an appearance at a SpikeTV conference (notice how unamused he looks when he's introduced to the crowd with a highlight reel of him dropping F-bombs), editing of the aforementioned Primetime special, a visit to Pinkberry, and a glimpse inside Wolfslair before the elimination fights.
Bonus, after the jump: Mike Tyson's ill-fated appearance as an MMA ref at a World Cage Fighting Championships event in March 2006. I have to say, that first stand-up due to inactivity on the ground might have been a little premature...

Tyson the Ref?
What the hell was that?
TYSON: "They fell on the ground! Don't they know to stand up and box?"
Nice way to whore out that video, Mike.
...douchbag...
In his prime, Tyson was one of the most exciting athletes ever. His fights were unbelievable! Then, he lost his mind...what a shame and a waste.
Next thing you know, Tyson will be fighting Ken Shamrock.
Phunnybonz Says:
Tyson vs Shamrock.....hmmm....I'd watch that. But I don't know if my opinion on watchable content is valid, after all I just watched Tyson "ref" an MMA fight. Obviously I'll watch anything even remotely MMA related.
tommy2tymes Says:
Dana's wearing a Triumph United Tshirt, bet the good ol' boys at TapOut wont be happy
duecheymcgee Says:

PaalSunde Says:

Th3R3al3st Says:
I've always been a fan of Franklin. After the countdown video, I like him even more. That was hilarious. Probably cause I really didnt expect it, especially from him hahaha
PaalSunde Says:

Dana trying to take Fedor's icecream title! Cocksuckin' paper-champ.
Massiveamounts Says:
Whoa whoa Old bald and Irish....I've got mad respect for you mate but easy on the Tyson bashing. I know it seems like he was a big fuck up but for what he accomplished but from where he came and went through as a child it's amazing that he was able to do what he did. OBI, Tyson's family didn't want him, he grew up in a hardcore ghetto, had no one but himself before Cuss took him under his wing...thats why he has such trust issues and is a complete loner...which I'm pretty sure caused him these mental problems. After Cuss died he had no one to lead him or anyone he could trust to look up to....in a interview with ESPN he still says that he needs someone to lead him or tell him what to do...it's a real mental issue, he didn't go crazy or loose his mind due to something he did, it's how people treated him from the time he was born that caused his mental illness. I don't think we can blame him or say that he's a waste because look what all he accomplished even with all these mental problems and problems with his life....and it was not only with his family but everyone besides Cuss wanted to just use Tyson...promoters friends and family....thats gotta be unreal to already have these major trust issues then have all these cocksukers kissing your ass just so they can get something out of you. I think of it just the opposite than you, I think he made major accomplishments for what limitations he was already dealt....he was the most dominate HW and if you ask me most dominate and most feared boxer ever to step into the ring. Thats pretty fucking major for anyone to accomplish much less a person who was abbandon from his family which started these mental issues and used by piece of shit promoters (Don King you waste of good skin I hope you die a firey fucking death) trainers and everyone who tried to associate themselves with Tyson. Later OBI, hope you see things a bit different now regarding Tyson..
Knowitall Says:
good points man. Tyson was defiently the most feared fighter to step in the ring. The look in his opponents eyes clarify that. The punching power, and aggression he displayed was truly scary. I loved watching him fight and am very happy that he will be in Fight Night Round 4. Might even be on the cover with Ali apparently. Anyways, sure Tyson was a fuck up, but yes it had a lot to do with being brought up in the ghetto, with no friends, a fucked up "family" if you wanted to call it that. Family with drug and alcohol problems. Then to top it off, he had that weird lisp that everyone made fun of. He even stated that he got started fighting because of people making fun of him. It was a shitty life and he literally started at rock bottom. Going from there to making 30mil a fight isnt too bad. Of course he spent it all, raped some chick, sexually abused others, made a fool of himself in all his interviews, bit off his opponents ear (holyfield), bit Lennox's leg in a press conference fight, and went bankrupt, blowing hundreds of millions of dollers. Nothing to show for it but some fucked up tattoo on his face. But he's still one of my favorite fighters, and one of the most interesting people ive ever seen. His bloopers are hilarious, and id love to meet him in person. LEGEND. On and off the ring. Maybe not all for the right reasons buut hey.
Billy Bad Ass Says:
Did Dana's dumbass just give $600 to the limo driver to win $100?
He's quite the business man.
canadian hoser Says:
kill him hendo
Acrocerid Says:
When Tyson is raising the victor's hand that little voice in his head is clearly saying, "We could knock this little punk's head off right now if we wanted. One more punch Mike...one punch"
Sneaky Pete Says:
Point taken Knowitall. And, the information is appreciated. I knew a lot of info before, but it's easy to lose sympathy for Tyson after his antics, to say nothing of his criminal behavior.
In OBI's defense though, when Tyson acts like a D-bag, call him a D-bag. The man is still responsible for his actions and deserves the criticism he earns after a point.
Justin Says:
Wow, let's drag two guys into this coaching crap who aren't even in this guys weight class to coach against him and then fight him. It would mean nothing to either of them to get that coaching spot in my opinion.
babcock Says:
Franklin is sweet. Let Hendo have 185 and let him have is rematch/re-asswhooping with Anderson Silva and lets see Franklin take on some real contenders at 205 and move up the ladder. Who really wants to see either of these guys beat up Bisping? and who nobody wants to see poor Rich get beat up by Silva again i just like him too much for that.
Crittino Says:
Dana didn't like it when two fighters in their primes couldn't fight each other because people couldn't make it happen?
Bill C. Says:
Mike Tyson Fight Record:
50 Wins, 6 Losses, 2 No Contest, 44 Knockouts
Other than Berbick, Holmes, and Spink, what other notable fighters did Tyson beat?
Most overrated fighter of all time, in my opinion.
Bill C. Says:
And I know that Tyson's knockouts were vicious, but when you're fighting guys who were literally human punching bags and had absolutely NO business being in a ring with him, the KOs are always going to be brutal.
BigMark Says:
The only thing Tyson fights with now is his weight
bold Says:
lmao i at rich franklin * thats just mean *
walrus Says:
@ Babcock
It's real easy to soil your argument when you claim that Dan Henderson is not a contender. C'mon, you could've done better than what you just said.
And as far as you "liking him too much" -- yea, seems aparent.
TPark Says:
Bill C. Out of 44 Knockouts, 24 came in the first round. I think thats pretty fcking sick regardless whether he fought notable fighters.
TPark Says:
Plus boxing has always been kinda fck over when it came to picking bouts. I mean managers would onlypick fighters that they thought could be beaten. If boxing was a bit more legitamate, most notable boxers wold have shittier records
Anonymous Says:
Yeah I don't do well with Tyson bashing. Tyson got fcked over so bad by Don King. OBI fatal error... you phail...
Tyler Says:
Dana White would suck himself off if he could.
Gangsta Lean Says:
@ Tyler:
wouldn't we all?
Tyler Says:
ah NO! "Gangsta Lean" I can honestly say I wouldn't want my penis in my mouth! But if it sounds like a good idea to you. Give it a shot.
AussieJosh Says:
DANA...........................
you said you can make the best fights happen right now! and I agree...you can! so lets make a deal... if Fador wins his next fight at Affliction then who ever wins out of frank and Brock shold face Fador!!!!
you know thats the right thing to do and if brock beats Frank....Then Brock fights Fador...That would be a Massive pay check in eveyones pocket!
So....Make it happen!
MMA fans the world over are looking to you for this!
Thor Says:
Rich Franklin is my new hero that was the funniest shit I have seen in a long f'ing time. I mean that in a good way not like a look at actual shits and laugh or anything.
Old, Bald and Irish Says:
@ Massiveamounts and Anonymous
I stand by my Tyson comments. I wouldn't say I'm "bashing" Tyson, it's more the sheer sad and riduculous place that he landed in life.
He is one of the best, if not the greatest, boxers to ever step into the ring. And he's reffin' a MMA match and whoring out product worse than that "ShamWow" guy?
Look, I know all about Tyson's history. And yes, after his mentor died everyone in his life took advantage of him and used him. But he also has to take responsibility for his criminal actions and decisions.
He squandered his talent and now, to me, he comes across pretty sad and pathetic.
I'ts cool if your still a fan. I am too and whenever his old matches are on ESPN Classic, you can bet that I'm staying and watchin'. But face it, the man's life has turned into an almost comical chaos.
Bootylam! Says:
Get it right guys. Tyson was WAY overrated, ducked all the good fighters and fell apart after a TRUE champion beat him like he was his stepdaddy. Holyfield exposed him even worse than Douglas. Bowe would have beat him if Tyson had enough balls to fight him, Mercer probably could have beaten him, hell, he would've had a tough time against Tua or Tommy Gunn... I mean Morrison. Casual fans love him, but true fans know that Tyson isn't even on the top 20 list.
AussieJosh Says:
Tyler........
Why is there to much shit on your dick from other males Bum Holes!?
agentsmith Says:
It's pathetic the way Coleman talks about his "win" over Shogun. Any credible fighter would be disappointed and talk like "That's not the way I wanted the fight to end." You don't hear Dale Hartt bragging about how he broke Corey Hill's leg. Instead Coleman talked (and still talks) like it was a great victory for him, and as if he did some kind of intentional submission move that directly caused Shogun's injury, like "I call this the 'arm-breaker takedown'." He just NEEDS to feel like he kicked the shit out of a young star that was literally almost half his age... like he really taught that whippersnapper punk a thing or two.
I guess that tells you all you need to know about the state of Coleman's career both then and now.
iamdaghost Says:
Rich is hilarious. Best quote, "He said shit? That's just mean."
nate Says:
ROFL Rich Franklin... 8:56-9:33
FREAKING Hilarious!!
