Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Wanderlei Reflects On His Early Days of Fighting and the Hardships He Overcame With a Little Help From His Friends

(Video courtesy YouTube/WandFightTeam)

If you can make it through the terrible music without poking your eardrums out with a Slim Jim, this short Wanderlei Silva retrospective is definitely a good watch.

The video opens with Wand heading to the hospital for knee surgery, which, be forewarned if you have a weak disposition, they catalogue in graphic detail.

Following the procedure, Silva gets sentimental while talking about his humble beginnings fighting for PRIDE while working full-time at a bar whenever he wasn’t in the gym. He recalls a story about a wealthy lawyer whom he was introduced to by a sponsor who after meeting him, handed him a check for $700 for supplements he needed but couldn’t afford. The experience became entrenched in his heart and greatly contributed to making him the person Wanderlei would become who vowed to always pay the deed forward.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, how can you NOT like Wand? The guy embodies the heart of a fighter and is always pure class…except for the time he said he wanted to fuck Chuck, but that was just a Freudian slip, I’m sure.

So we're all in agreement that the "supplement" he bought was steroids, right?

Wandi is a class act...nice to have a classy Silva in the compared to the dickhead with a belt.

The 'Fuck Chuck' comment was one of the funniest things I've seen come from a post-fight interview.

@Lysol...+1...that's a whole cast of d-bags right there...

I have always been neutral at best on wandy. I liked the guy but I rarely picked him to win a fight in UFC, cause I knew the fights he was taking were against top UFC fighters, and I always figured they would win.
I would say wandy is in my top 10 fighters I really like however and that story about the lawyer giving him a 700 check without ever having seen him, was indeed heartwarming, it was nice to see him get verclempt over it, that shows he has heart, he still cares......and that alone makes him a top 10 guy. He may never win that UFC gold but he does put on a great fight.
Get well Wandy, and stay classy my axe-murdering friend.

Could have saved a bunch of money on anesthetics by having my boy Rampage go in there and lay him out real quick.

I still love his wrist warmup

Saying "I don't like Wanderlei Silva" is a less verbose way of saying "I was rejected from the cast of Jersey Shore for being a gigantic douchebag"

Seriously, if your list of favorite fighters does not feature Vanderlei prominently, i don't want to be your friend.

Even if Wand doesn't win a belt he is a champ to every true fan of mma. His career speaks for itself and we are lucky to still see a future Hall of Famer with pure heart lay it all on the line.

Amazing fighter and human being. I hope Wand can come back from surgery and continue winning at 185. He deserves to hold another belt at some point. Either way amazing career, and heart. The man was born to fight.

The "Fuck Chuck" incident is timeless...

Wand is probably one of the most like-able fighters out there...

good luck on your road to recovery, Axe Murderer.
CungwantsCookies- July 29, 2010 at 4:55 pm
i dont care who you are, wand is the man. period.

even if he isnt winning he's still a champ in my books.
Sabado Gigante- July 29, 2010 at 4:44 pm
Dana would get his head ripped off if he ever came to Wand with the "wanna be a fucking fighter" speech... wand is the epitome of a fighter, both in and out of competition. We should consider ourselves lucky to have experienced the ride that is Wanderlei's career. I've never seen a guy who enjoys bleeding for us more than Wanderlei... Ok, I'll get off his nuts now... But for real... Dude rules

Wand is like the Bizarro World Chael Sonnen.
