If you can make it through the terrible music without poking your eardrums out with a Slim Jim, this short Wanderlei Silva retrospective is definitely a good watch.
The video opens with Wand heading to the hospital for knee surgery, which, be forewarned if you have a weak disposition, they catalogue in graphic detail.
Following the procedure, Silva gets sentimental while talking about his humble beginnings fighting for PRIDE while working full-time at a bar whenever he wasn’t in the gym. He recalls a story about a wealthy lawyer whom he was introduced to by a sponsor who after meeting him, handed him a check for $700 for supplements he needed but couldn’t afford. The experience became entrenched in his heart and greatly contributed to making him the person Wanderlei would become who vowed to always pay the deed forward.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, how can you NOT like Wand? The guy embodies the heart of a fighter and is always pure class…except for the time he said he wanted to fuck Chuck, but that was just a Freudian slip, I’m sure.
