(Let’s hope the rematch lasts a little longer.)
During the UFC 142 press conference this morning, the UFC announced that long time rivals Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort have been chosen as opposing coaches for the first international season of The Ultimate Fighter, which will be filmed on location in Brazil and entirely in Portugese, or in Mike Goldberg’s case, Japanese. The debut for TUF Brazil is set for March 25th as of this moment, with the finale being held sometime in June at a location TBD.
Few can forget the pair’s initial meeting, which took place back at UFC 17.5 and saw Vitor Belfort (making his light heavyweight debut) score the world record for most consecutive punches landed in a row, with 467,000 in just under 5 seconds. Wandy would go on to rule PRIDE’s middleweight division, whereas Vitor would put together a 13-6 record in various promotions before returning to the octagon, where he has gone 2-1 thus far.
Definitely an interesting development considering Dana White recently declared that he would be happy if Silva retired in the wake of his match with Cung Le, despite the fact that he won the fight. But if this is Wanderlei’s last fight, depending on the outcome of course, we couldn’t ask for a better match-up.
Who you guys got for this one?
