Wanderlei Silva Calls Out Vitor Belfort for Rematch

(“Duck you? No, bro. I joined a monastery in Istanbul.”)

In spite of the fact that he has a May dance date with Brian Stann set for UFC 130, Wanderlei Silva seems more focused on erasing a nearly 12-and-a-half-year-old loss from his record than his upcoming opponent.

Speaking with Tatame yesterday, “the Axe Murderer” called out fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort — the man who handed him the second loss of his MMA career.

“Now, where are you yoing to run to?” Silva asked the former UFC light heavyweight champ who was soundly and quickly beaten Saturday by Anderson Silva at UFC 126. “I’d give him the first shot [at fighting me] easily. I’m challenging him. I want him.”

Silva went on to post a follow up remark on his Twitter page yesterday as well that stated: “Now Belfort has nowhere to run,” in reference to the fact that Vitor immediately left the UFC following the win, only to return after Wand had left the promotion to become a fixture in PRIDE.

I don’t know if Vitor actually ducked Wand, or if a rematch makes a lot of sense, especially if Silva loses to Stann, considering hiss recent run in the UFC, but I’d pay to watch these two go at it at UFC Rio in August. The only other options if the UFC decided to not go with Brazil on Brazil violence at the event would be to bring in a guy like Chris Leben, Patrick Cote or Alan Belcher to go toe-to-toe with Wand.

I guess Wandy is tired of everyone calling him out all of the time.

Lets just hope that Vitor is not a habitual line stepper anymore... or is Wandy gonna play ashy larrys part?
MMAINMYBLOOD- February 11, 2011 at 2:40 pm
@ RwilsonR thats fuckin hilarious!!! Oh shit... I would love to see these guys go at it again... I think the outcome is still the same because wandy still hasnt fixed his defense since then.. thats just my opinion I feel belfort is too crisp.

Vitor vs. Wand in Brazil would be off the chain. Doesn't matter if Wandy loses to Brian Stann. Just means they'd both be coming off a loss. Good move by Wand. Hope the UFC inks that fight.

anyone read that article callin bullshit on silva & segeal? It was made up by Silva's manager to increase Silva's exposure in america

I just hope Seagal doesn't teach Wand that front kick he invented. Vitor is a sucker for that move, and if do right, no can defense.

Way to pick on a guy when he's down, Wandy.

Book 'em Dana. Whats so capitivating about Stann Vs. Wandy anyway? Theres a few intriguing fights for Wandy right now and thats Leben, Sonnen, or Vitor. Leben lost, Sonnen is kinda busy, so put the two aging Brazillians against each other at the Brazil show.

@Towelie: They did, but he was told he would be brought back if he racks up a couple wins. He's fighting Kalib Starnes in April.

Belcher vs Wand would be fanfuckingtastic.
