(“Duck you? No, bro. I joined a monastery in Istanbul.”)
In spite of the fact that he has a May dance date with Brian Stann set for UFC 130, Wanderlei Silva seems more focused on erasing a nearly 12-and-a-half-year-old loss from his record than his upcoming opponent.
Speaking with Tatame yesterday, “the Axe Murderer” called out fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort — the man who handed him the second loss of his MMA career.
“Now, where are you yoing to run to?” Silva asked the former UFC light heavyweight champ who was soundly and quickly beaten Saturday by Anderson Silva at UFC 126. “I’d give him the first shot [at fighting me] easily. I’m challenging him. I want him.”
Silva went on to post a follow up remark on his Twitter page yesterday as well that stated: “Now Belfort has nowhere to run,” in reference to the fact that Vitor immediately left the UFC following the win, only to return after Wand had left the promotion to become a fixture in PRIDE.

I don’t know if Vitor actually ducked Wand, or if a rematch makes a lot of sense, especially if Silva loses to Stann, considering hiss recent run in the UFC, but I’d pay to watch these two go at it at UFC Rio in August. The only other options if the UFC decided to not go with Brazil on Brazil violence at the event would be to bring in a guy like Chris Leben, Patrick Cote or Alan Belcher to go toe-to-toe with Wand.
