Want to Help a Cool MMA-Themed Short Film Get Made? Here’s How You Can

(Video courtesy of Kickstarter/OneMoreRoundMovie)

As longtime supporters of independent MMA films like Driven, Once I was a Champion and Numb, we wanted to help out the producers of an upcoming short film get the word out about their unique and worthwhile project.

Erwann G. Marshall, who also produced the award-winning 22-minute short “Numb,” is following up his successful entry into MMA filmmaking with a six-minute featurette entitled “One More Round.” The film, which is dependant on donations and will star Scott Epstein in the lead role, is described as “a movie that explores a fighter’s mind as he enters the final round of the most important fight of his life.”

The goal for Marshall’s grassroots fundraising campaign for the film is $10,000 to cover the costs of the project.

So far, 18 backers have contributed $1,751 and with 39 days left in the money raising drive, he is asking for donations of as little as $1 to make his vision a reality.

For more info on the project, you can go to the group’s KickStarter page HERE.

Mike this is not the same thing as either of those two. This guy uses the short films to get his name out there.. for exposure. Off of our money??? Whoever donates is a huge sucker. One born every day.

Jesus there are a lot of pissy people here today. If you don't want to contribute, don't. It's a simple concept. The same as giving to charity or buying girl scout cookies.

@egm
if you weren't a dumb bum u'd have 10000 saved up by now. asking random mma fans to support your cause is weak. Id love to see u pitch this idea to the sharks tank and get shot down within 10 seconds.

Hey KINGMADE -

On our last film NUMB, we paid for the whole thing out of pocket. It was an expensive endeavor, but a passion project and worth every penny. Thing is, with short films, there usually isn't any monetary return on investment. It's about doing something you love to gain exposure for yourself, for a cause, or whatever the individual goal may be. I made NUMB because I feel that there are a lot of compelling stories about this sport that have yet to be told and I want to help show a side of it that we haven't yet gotten to see in films. A lot of people enjoyed NUMB (including the MMA community), and I wanted to deliver another short - albeit this time more action packed and looking at the sport from a different angle. We decided to try crowd funding to HELP us make the film. We will put money into the film ourselves, that's a given, but we're not rich, and we figured based on the last short film that a number of people would be willing to help us with small donations - $1 or $10 or even more to see the film happen. So far, a lot of generous people have been extremely helpful.
As for sacrificing things to do something you love. I do that every day. BTW - the two computer screens behind me and the leather chair I am sitting on are not mine. I don't think the office I was at would take too kindly to me selling them off. :) It's space that was donated to me to help make this film, and many donations come in that form - people's time and resources and even just getting the word out there.
If people don't want to donate to the movie, that's cool. We don't expect everyone to. But I appreciate your passion!

Man, some harsh criticisms for a guy just asking for some help.

We can't all shoot our films on a 50 dollar budget...just sayin.

You want to do something you love??? Do what other people do.. mortgage your house, sell the dual screens behind you, the leather chair you are sitting in... who the fuck are you to ask other people for hand outs? You should take the money you have already raised and give it to a cause that actually helps people. Unless of course your film can be eaten.
KINGMADE- October 12, 2011 at 12:42 am
Or I will do it. EGM... Fuck Off.
KINGMADE- October 12, 2011 at 12:40 am
So... he had a "successful" film already, but needs 10 grand from other people to make another one? No thanks. Spend your own fucking money. Will there be a return on my fucking investment? Tell this guy to fuck off.

To answer your questions:

1. MMA fights are three rounds long (unless they are championship fights, in which case they are 5). Therefore, the last round of a MMA fight is generally the third. It doesn't have to be a championship fight for it to be the most important in a fighter's life (to this point).

2. 6 minutes is the approximate length of the film. It opens between round 2 and 3. Giving you about a minute of intro, followed by the fight (the result of which is big part of the story - but lasts most of the story), followed by the post fight. That makes it about 6 minutes (hasn't been shot yet, so give or take a little).

3. The average feature film costs upwards of 30 million dollars or more, and that's generally for 120 minutes or less. $10,000 is a tiny budget even for six minutes - but we will make the film look damn amazing.

Hope that answers all your questions! Thanks! :)

@Skeletor;
That mom of yours is a very generous lady.
RSparrow- October 11, 2011 at 6:52 pm
Will these 6 minutes really cost 10 grand??? These answers and more...
skeletor- October 11, 2011 at 6:40 pm
@Sparrow - Also at 6 minutes long does it cover the minute between rounds 2 and 3 thus ending by some form of stoppage at 4:59 of the third round? Or does it begin at the bell in the third and go to a decision with time left over to tally the score cards ands deliver the judges decision?
RSparrow- October 11, 2011 at 6:17 pm
Why would he be entering the LAST and most IMPORTANT round of his life in the THIRD ROUND!?!?!? Didn't think that one through? Come on...
skeletor- October 11, 2011 at 4:32 pm
@Karma - who did you borrow the donation money from? And why didn't they donate it themselves?
