‘Warrior’ Trailer: An MMA Movie for Grown-Ups?

It’s kind of nice to see an MMA movie that doesn’t involve underground fight clubs or tubby physical comedians. Warrior hits theaters on September 9th, and aside from a couple of overly-dramatic plot points — the “win or you lose your house” angle, the brothers forced to face off in the climactic fight — it could turn out to be the most realistic depiction of the sport in movie history. The director is Gavin O’Connor, who was a producer on the classic 2002 MMA documentary The Smashing Machine, and it co-stars Tom Hardy, who was a total badass in Bronson. We’re looking forward to it.

@FeelDaRiddum Apparently Micheal Jai White brought in Eddie Bravo as well, so it might not be that bad. I've never watched the 1st one, but it's suppose to be way different.

"This is impossible! The two men fighting for the championship tonight are brothers!" Oh, crap...

Ok, sounds like a movie about a guy with money problems, failing marriage, sick kid, sick dog, sick father who he hates but connects with again, successful brother he hates but connects with again. He enjoys long sad walks through poor parts of the city while listening to sad, dramatic background music. He hasn't trained in years, but gets into shape during a minute long montage. He barely wins his first crappy opponent, as he does all that follow to become the champion after beating his own brother. And then his wife loves him again and he can afford the medicine for the kid and the dog. Unfortunately his dad dies just before the championship fight...

Shit, Hardy looks big in this. Looks like he's already done the bulking up for The Dark Knight Rises.

Nate Marquardt has some kind fo part in it. I dont know how big or how small. From his Twitter he says he plays a guy, Karl Kruller

Other than the powerbomb, the rest of the fighting looked OK. A bit of a spoiler that the brothers are in the final together but I suppose that it should be a given that the protagonist gets there, and if his brother is in the tournamnet, what else is a writer to do?

Probably won't be the worst film I've ever seen, probably won't be the greatest but I'll give it a try.

Can't wait to see this one!

Coming out of retirement.
always wearing a grey zip up hoodie and a black stocking cap.
A trainer with a golf hat on who has demons of his own.
An inspiring female love.
A big climactic battle.
Haven't seen that before. I will however probably see it when it comes out on DVD.

I saw Edgerton in Animal Kingdom, he was cool. Handsome Bob was alright in Bronson except for the fact that his ugly bouncing cock got twenty minutes of fucking screen time. If I have to watch a dick wave about in a movie for five minutes at a time at least circumcise it and give it a shaved snatch as it's costar.
RearNakedSpoon- April 7, 2011 at 3:01 pm
Looks like the Rocky of MMA, in a good way.

Joel Edgerton, Aussie actor!
We're taking over Hollywood Goddamnit!! Well, the straight to DVD part anyway.

@ Fried Taco,

Me too! Can't be all that good, it's got Kurt Angle in it.
Fried Taco- April 7, 2011 at 2:27 pm
For a minute there, I thought it was starring Chael Sonnen.

If CP is looking forward to it, then it goes on the "to avoid" list.
Anhonestmoose- April 7, 2011 at 2:16 pm
By the standards of previous MMA movies, this looks pretty damn good. Of course, those standards are pretty damn low...
O Chan- April 7, 2011 at 2:09 pm
I can see two brothers fighting each other in the finals... Assuming they both don't train together at Jackson's or AKA.
FeelDaRiddum- April 7, 2011 at 2:06 pm
their also coming out with never back down 2... prolly gonna be wack but michael jai whites is gonna be in it so i'll go see it for that reason. dude has like a black belt in almost every stand up technique out there.
FeelDaRiddum- April 7, 2011 at 2:02 pm
tom hardy is a badass
KMagician- April 7, 2011 at 1:51 pm
An MMA movie with a knowledgeable director and actors I've actually heard of? Fucking wild.
I will watch this.
Hopefully they won't screw up the MMA parts :/
