Our friends at Screen Junkies recently tracked down this trailer for the newest installment in the “Predator” film series (they apparently gave up and just called this one “Predators”), and the trailer features every MMA fan’s favorite old school Russian bad-ass, Oleg Taktarov. He plays Nikolai, a name which is second only to Boris as the most popular character name over the course of Taktarov’s film career. His brand of menacing stoicism will bring some much-needed street cred to an action film where we’re supposed to buy Adrian Brody as the forceful male lead. A quick plot synopsis for your approval:

Brody plays Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human "predators" that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.

Okay, so it’s a bit of a stretch. The part where we’re supposed to believe that Brody is a stone cold mercenary, that is. The part where aliens abduct elite warriors to hunt them for sport is pretty believable by comparison. But hey, at least there’s Oleg to utter some sweet one-liners before he inevitably gets aced by a Predator. Get a preview of what that might look like after the jump.

I consider Avatar a manipulative ripoff of AlienS for a multitude of reasons.

Oh and WAR Danny Trejo... awesome seeing that-guy-from-almost-every-action-movie make the team.

Well they sure waited long enough.. I wish they hadn't it probably would have been so much better. They would have had to rely on actually making a good movie, instead of focusing on special effects and other stupid bullshit. That's one of the biggest problems in movies today, they have too much freedom with special effects so it becomes the only thing they focus on. Prime example, original star wars trilogy compared to the new trilogy. How a low budget 70's movie with severley limited technology and a carpenter cast as a main character managed to blow the new ones out of the water is pretty rediculous. The last 2 matrix movies were pretty shitty too. Sometimes less is more.

Oleg would win via Frank Mir/Homer Simpson the Boxer... He'd get the shit beat out of him until his much bigger, much stronger opponent(prime Dan Severn, prime Ken Shamrock, prime Tank Abbot)would either make a mistake or gas out from wailing on him-most likely gas out-and he'd finish them off.

Only sometimes they wouldn't gas out and would beat him into "bolivian".

O.G. "Predator"... FTW!! Not even close, either.

Russian Bear had to be the toughest SOB to ever enter the cage. I remember Tank Abbot beating the bejesus out of him for damn near eternity, thinking Oleg was a goner, only to see him rise from the dead and submit Tank. A)They don't make 'em like they used to and B), today's refs/rules suck balls.

The idea has been around forever. They've been doing comic books, games, and books (most of the books are really good) for a while. I remember being a little kid and wanting a neo geo so badly just because they had avp for it.. I think that was the system. I bet they put the skull in predator 2 because that idea had been floating around already. I'm sure people were talking about it as soon as the movies were both released.

Then again I'm only 25 so I have a hard time keeping track of what happened when, I guess predator 2 came out a long time ago too so maybe your right maybe that is what started the whole thing.

Also, both avp movies sucked dick. The movie industry has gone wayyy down hill. They don't make em like they use to. I found it funny that in the 6 previous movies, 6 were rated R and dropped F bombs left and right and lots of gore.. so the logical thing to do when you combine them? Make it PG13?? Guess it helps sell more tickets. Then I'm guessing they got really negative responses about that, so what do they do? Go overkill on the next one and make it gratuitously(sp?) gory and dark.. and incredibly stupid..

Oh and I also love that the casts of the alien/pred movies included Arnold, Paxton, the guy from terminator 1, Glover, Weaver, Ventura.. plenty of other star power or at least recognizable names.. and yet in avp1 and 2 I couldn't tell you the name of a single actor. Fuck modern movie making.. they have ruined those franchises as far as I'm concerned. ok I'm done venting now.

If they reimagined the predator then it wouldn't be predator, and every predator fan boy like myself would be in outrage. Nothing irritates me more than changing something that people love just to make it new and updated. If something has a huge fan following there is a reason for it, and changing it will just piss everyone off. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Hate to break this to you.. but you've been waiting a long time for no reason. Google "Predator 2" ;)

Lastly, if 1 single predator easily took out like 20 green berrets(sp?)..remember it killed a lot of soldiers before Arnold's crew ever showed up.. then I fail to see how putting a handful of guys against 10 predators makes sense. In the first two movies it was 1 predator handing 30 armed humans in a row their asses. I don't like where this one is going. I have a feeling they are going to be having preds die left and right which doesn't follow the history. Predators are suppose to be physicaly and technologically superior, that group of goons should be a fair fight against 1.. maybe.

Remember how 'Alien' was awesome and then 'Aliens' was also awesome in a completely different way?

Well, now we've got 'Predator' and 'Predators'.

I'm pretty sure that's where they were going with the name, guys. C'mon, get on the ball. If they manage to get 'Predators' anywhere near as awesome as 'Aliens', I'll be a very happy drunken American of Scandinavian descent.

This one looks like it has some cool characters in it. The last one had such shitty characters in it I was actually rooting for the predators and aliens to both jack up the annoying humans.Then the one before that was total poop.It was supposed to be alien vs predator but instead it was alien vs predator vs the annoying chick with the stick.If I were the predator in that film I totally would have disemboweled that chick and used her skull to eat my froot loops out of.Like a predator is supposed to do.That being said they should have gotten Don Frye for a cameo.

Nimrod Antal and Robert Rodriguez is an interesting combo, but I've just never been a fan of the predator design. Its a stupid half assed looking thing. If they had reimagined the costume I'd be more interested.

I will probably see this just because of Oleg Taktarov, he was my favorite UFC fighter back in the day, his submission of Anthony Macias still one of my favorite moments.

My dad took me to see the original Predator movie in the theater, when i was ten years old and thought Schwarzenegger was cooler than He-Man. I STILL love those 80's Arnie movies, particularly The Running Man, the Conan movies, the Terminator movies, and Commando (!!!). If you have not seen these movies, we can't be friends.

Despite there being no mention of AS in this movie, i'll probably dig it anyway.
