MMA Fighter Challenges People to Punch Him in the Face, Everyone Fails

Watch Your Back, Rampage; MMA Has a New Thespian

(Video courtesy YouTube/MMAFighting)

I’m not sure if Anderson Silva is using Billy Madison as a benchmark for what Americans act like, but I half expected the UFC middleweight champ to wet his pants during this strange interview with MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.

I get that he’s trying to be funny, but I can’t picture any other world class athletes clowning around like ritalin-starved six year olds with ADD during an interview. Ariel seemed a bit thrown off by Anderson’s weird behavior, but was able to keep his composure. He did seemed really uncomfortable dancing with Silva at the end of the video, but then again, who wouldn’t be?

Personally, I’d like to see this guy interview Anderson.

@ArmFarmer
I am shocked that you of all people would not recognize a fix when you see one.
Silva put some cash on himself to win vs. Maia by decision... Disrespect from Maia was not the reason, a blocked punch was not the reason etc... Dana pulled Silva and Soares into the back after that fight and let them know that they did not fool him with that shit.

I completely agree with you about Silva's insult about Fans not understanding what they are watching....He said that same garbage about us in Montreal after UFC97, problem is, Montreal(+neighbouring Indian reserves) have been holding MMA events regularly since the 90's! It's a cop out, dismissive and extremely disrespectful of Silva to make statements like this over and over again, time for Silva to get a new angle already.

@dogpt3

"who the fuck are we to reprimand a guy for how he chooses to conduct himself."

You make this statement and in the very same post...

"You want to talk about clowns, talk about the guy running his mouth calling himself a gangster, while simultaneously saying the UFC has no room for gangsters."

"republican douche bag"

I bet you're one of the ones always ripping on Dana for being a hypocrate too..

We are fans.. we are suppose to judge athletes on how they choose to conduct themselves. Silva continuously conducts himself like a dbag and the fans react accordingly. Take Silva's nuts out of your mouth and get over it.

Honestly I don't see how Silva has any fans left. He acted like a brat the whole interview, didn't really answer any of the questions but one, and the one he did answer he belittled all of the fans with his answer. He thinks were are just dumb and ignorant because we actually expect a fight for the main event of a ppv.

Look, I get playing it safe for the win but Silva takes it too far. He said that he didn't try to finish Maia because at one point he punched maia and it got blocked, and Silva was like "I didn't want to try to hit him again because I might break my hand if he blocks". WHAT THE FUCK. Thank god every fighter isn't so concerned with hurting themselves while beating someones ass.. otherwise they would just stand in the cage and look at eachother.. or dance.....

There is only one man who can withstand the shenanigans of Anderson Silva.

That man is Steve Brule.
fatbellyfrank- June 1, 2010 at 8:36 pm
To quote Shrek, I just think Silva is like an onion, many, many layers, each time you peel a layer off, something new is revealed, I mean, whoda thunk he was such a fun guy as shown in this vid!
fatbellyfrank- June 1, 2010 at 8:33 pm
Where did all those trolls from BE go, I think I spelled innocous wrong but I couldn't be fucked checkin
dranokills- June 1, 2010 at 7:51 pm
How sad UFC has a champ who is batshit crazy.
Anderson acts like a little retarded boy.
I predict he will act like a dancing fuck-monkey once again, and Dana will fire him....and good fucking riddance to trash.
2DaDeath- June 1, 2010 at 5:20 pm
The way you react to this video is a reflection on where u r in life. If u see the glass half full, Anderson is a funny, laid-back guy. If u see the glass half empty... ur just a miserable asshole named Ben, lol! J/K!
fatbellyfrank- June 1, 2010 at 4:53 pm
And once again, the seemingly innocous actions of one A Silva divide the MMA community like the grand canyon
DAN THE VIKING- June 1, 2010 at 4:32 pm
Get off his nuts. That was condending and disrespectful. What if Helwani had held the mic in his face like he did to him and Soares? He didnt answer any fuckin questions, just blabbed on about how we fans dont know anything about what goes on in the 'ring' and did his shitty 11 year old girl comedy act.

Youd have to be crazy to see that as charming or funny.
halfbreed23- June 1, 2010 at 2:59 pm
Total overreaction by CP on this interview. I mean, he's asked to dance! I know it's a slow day for MMA but don't go making shit up.
Emopinata- June 1, 2010 at 2:41 pm
I'm pretty sure anderson just gets tired of trying to speak english....
same thing happens with everyone if you're trying to learn a new language,
shit gets old.
good to see him happy and smiling and enjoying himself.. sure it is a little different but hes from Brazil, they are different.
but he better put his game face the fuck on when it comes to fight day
cecils_pupils- June 1, 2010 at 2:40 pm
Ariel Helwani: he will never again ask another fighter about anything dance-related, ever.
Anderson Silva: feces. And, yes, he's being himself alright. I say again... feces.
Almost North- June 1, 2010 at 2:09 pm
Yeah I actually agree with you guys and think he would be pretty fun to hang out with, just wish he would take fights seriously and only dance at the right moments, like during the deforestation.
iDestroy- June 1, 2010 at 2:03 pm
Lol. I am not a fan of Anderson Silva, but he seems like a dude I wouldn't mind hangin out with.
Username- June 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm
Interviews with Ariel Helwani are alqays boring. Here you can see what a lame guy he is.
macreadysshack- June 1, 2010 at 1:13 pm
To carry 2DaDeath's rationale even further . . . What would you rather use to bag the non-English speaking hottie, High school Spanish, a translator OR body language and physical humor? Body language isn't perfectly cross culturally translatable but it's a damn-site better than sounding like a retard or relying on a more fluent wingman. I've been in this exact situation with Swiss chicks, German chicks, Dutch chicks, Tennessee chicks etc, etc - tons of non-english speakers. Body language is the only way to go. I think Silva's smart to use it.

Silva has always acted like this. I hope this interview is an indication that he hasn't changed as much as I thought he had.

Helwani is the perfect straightman interviewer, too. Perfect foil for big personalities or jerk-offs who say stupid shit like the racist piece of crap boxing promoter.
Robocop Didnt Tap- June 1, 2010 at 1:07 pm
Sounds like a job for Scoops Callahan!

Are you serious, Ben (or whoever wrote this)

That was perhaps the greatest mma interview ever. Silva comes across as a happy free spirit.

Also, he isn't mimicking or attempting to put on a face of what he thinks an American is like, he's being HIMSELF. Which is great, instead of playing either a typical sports 'play it one game at a time' guy, or being a 'tough guy' trying to hype up a fight.

Shit, Helwani just got a dance from one of the greatest fighter's on earth (though I am annoyed with his last few fights like most people), I'm jealous.
Don_Dada- June 1, 2010 at 12:48 pm
lol Helwani was the woman in this clip.
k-onda- June 1, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Yeah, I couldn't really make this article jive with this video. Let a guy relax, you know all those UFC videos of guys mean mugging are set up right? They don't really walk around like that all the time. And unless I'm mistaken, Ariel brought the toy, and asked him to dance for the folks.
dogpt3- June 1, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Begin Rant:
So many haters. Brock acts like a hardass dick and everyone hates him, Silva acts like a clown and everyone hates him. How boring would it be if everyone acted like GSP. I'm so sick of all these wannabe MMA fans all over Sonnens dick cuz he's coming out and bashing Silva. Silva embarrased himself his last fight and still smashed the shit out of Maia (who beat Sonnen) You want to talk about clowns, talk about the guy running his mouth calling himself a gangster, while simultaneously saying the UFC has no room for gangsters. Mark my words, half of the ass clowns talking shit about Silva and all over Sonnens nuts will jump ship the second Silva makes an example out of this republican douche bag. As far as the interview, Silvas always been a joker, so what if the guy wants to have some fun in his interviews who the fuck are we to reprimand a guy for how he chooses to conduct himself. Silva's last fight was fucked up, get over it hes still champ and hes still more lethal than Mel Gibson and Danny Glover COMBINED. The funny thing is that all these keyboard warriors that are so appalled by Silva's last fight were the ones streaming it for free, pretending like they actually paid for the PPV and feel ripped off. Silva fucked up for whatever reason his last fight, for all we know it was fixed by some Sheik and Silva made off with enough money to buy South America.
I know MMA math doesnt add up but lets do a quick comparison of the people both Silva and Sonnen have fought

Okami - Chael wins, Silva losses by DQ - I guess thats one point for Chael
Forrest Griffin - Silva puts on a clinic, Chael gets caught in a triangle
Marquardt - Chael eeks out a decision, Silva knocks him the fuck out in 1st round
Maia - Chael losses in 1st to a triangle, Silva smashes his face in, breaks his nose then decides to put on a dance show.
Jeremy Horn - Silva wins by decision, Chael losses twice

Seems to me that almost all of Chaels 10 losses have come via submission, Silva has very good submissions if he needs to use them.
Lek- June 1, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Also, just want to add... this coming from an mma blog which attempts to be funny all the time?

you say, "I get that he's trying to be funny, but I can't picture any other world class athletes clowning around like ritalin-starved six year olds with ADD during an interview."

Come on, half of the humor on this sight is not exactly sophisticated...
KarmaAteMyCat- June 1, 2010 at 12:35 pm
I loved that interview. Sonnen is wrong we still pay to see Anderson and come August I'll pay to see him Knock out Sonnen don't for a moment think sonnen has a chance in hell. Like I hope he enjoys breaking promises to the dead cause its over.
Kayblade- June 1, 2010 at 12:21 pm
Robin Black is a JOKE.

That, and Anderson Silva won me back. What a joker. Sooo weird, I love it.
