Watching Fights With Dominick Cruz Is as Uncomfortably Intense as Actually Fighting Him [VIDEO]

Dominick Cruz has that same condition Chuck Liddell has, where part of his brain automatically switches into “I’M FIGHTING” mode when he’s watching other people fight, and he begins to lose control of his body. Fuel TV has released a revealing pair of behind-the-scenes clips shot backstage during last Saturday’s Faber vs. Barao fight. In the first one, Cruz is pacing back and forth like Burt Watson just told him it’s time to roll. The sound of the interim bantamweight title fight being introduced is enough to give Dominick some painful flashbacks.

As you’ll see in the next clip (after the jump), Jon Anik and Brian Stann were at the other end of that hall the whole time, and God knows what they must have made of the pacing thing. Cruz and Stann break down the action, and unsurprisingly, Dominick is unable to stand still. You get the sense that Cruz was pulling for Urijah to win. Did he see something in Barao that spooked him, or did he just want another opportunity to beat up his old rival?

For some really cool insight into the strange relationship between Cruz and Faber, anyone interested should check out Faber on Joe Rogan's podcast. These guys almost have a weird love/hate thing going on and the backstory is pretty interesting.

This was a cool post/article. I always enjoy hearing analysis from high-level MMA fighters, especially when they are watching likely opponents. There was a similar video of Rashad Evans watching Jones v. Jackson. Fascinating stuff. You can see them try to process what they are watching. It's important to them.

poor guy. That must've been hard as hell to watch that fight that he should have been in - and won - and got me many more fantasy points. yep... hard as hell :(

GAE=Gambling addiction enabler on CP. I wrote the last two and both finished + money(depending on how you bet, but I may also give some advice on how to lay your money on a given card) not bad considering how last weekend went down, we are beating all other sites out there.(old dad was 0-5..yikes)

I love Jay Glazer sitting next to Chuck "grab his hand Ryan.....fuck!!" as his parlay get's crushed by a +400 Tito.
Seriously, Cruz has a long way to go before he can even hold a candle to the iceman's demeanor while watching a fight.
@Sopapo Follow the GAE my friend and you'll make it back.

That, my friends, is a true fighter. Clearly that's one gentleman that would rather be in the ring than in some room watching a fight.

I get the feeling that Domminick is one cerebral fighter. Much like Maravilla Martinez in boxing. He seems to really study his opponents. Where Faber defenetely came in with a bad game plan and didn't adjust it at all making me loose 100 bucks.
I will really enjoy Domminick fighting Barao.
