UFC lightweight Mac Danzig stopped by Amoeba Music in Hollywood, CA to pick up a few items recently and while he was there he filmed a segment of their What’s in my Bag? interview series.
It’s no surprise that the fighter, photographer, philosopher and devout vegan has some eclectic taste in music and films.
Every guy is guilty at one time or another of pretending to like something they don’t to impress the girl they’re dating, but Danzig takes the term "taking one for the team" to a whole new level by faking a genuine love of Grace Jones’ "music."
If you are too young to remember Jones, she was an amazonian-like model-turned avant-garde singer and actress whose popularity peaked in the 80s with film roles such as Zula in Conan the Destroyer and Bond Girl May Day in A View to a Kill.
BTW, is it just me or does anyone else think she bears a strong resemblance to Gus Johnson?
At the risk of cockblocking Mac, we’ll just move on and examine his other musical and film picks.
7L & Estoeric makes sense, considering he has toured with the duo, is a huge hip-hop fan and often walks out to his UFC fights to 7L&E collaborators Jedi Mind Tricks’ and Army of the Pharoahs’ War Ensemble.
Martha Wainright was a bit of a shocker, but we all have our guilty pleasures and my wife has her album on our shared ipod (I swear it’s not mine; Seriously), so whatever.
Props for his penchant for David Lynch movies. I used to hate them, but they’ve grown on me simply because of how bizarre the majority of the films are. I watched Blue Velvet when I was 12 and it confused the shit out of me. It still does, but now I understand and can pay attention more since I don’t have to watch it in the basement with the volume down low with my finger on the stop button of the VCR in case my parents catch me.
I was disappointed to not hear him say he listens to Danzig, but he recovered by mentioning that he’s a Slayer fan, although I can’t help but wonder if listening to titles like Reign in Blood and World Painted Blood leave a vegan like Mac feeling a bit conflicted.

@wifey - I like a hot steamy piece of meat regularly as well. Nothing to be ashamed of.
@ iDestroy - No, no sir you are not. To answer the question in the header, I'm guessing not nuts.
