When The Diaz Bros Come to Party, There’s Never a Dull Moment

(No, they aren’t posing. That’s just how they kick it.)

I’m not sure if I love the Diaz brothers in spite of their behavior, or because of it. I’m leaning toward the latter, if only because the more I see of them, the more I become convinced that they may be the most genuine people in all of MMA. All the yelling and swearing and flippin’ the bird? The posturing that reminds you of a fourteen-year-old kid who’s just grown his first facial hairs and is feeling like a man with the constant need to prove it? That’s them. That’s just how they are. Ultimate Fight Night was just one more example.

Not only is Nate Diaz a near mirror-image of his brother in the cage, he also mimicks his interview style. At least, that’s what people tell me. I couldn’t make out most of what he said after his win over Josh Neer last night. I caught the word ‘motherfucker.’ I believe the phrase ‘weak-ass punk’ was peppered in there, as well as the obligatory mention of the 209. Other than that, it was tough to decipher. I had hoped we’d get more in the post-fight press conference, but the Diaz brothers had other ideas.

Nate Diaz had barely taken his seat for the impromptu session with the press when Nick drew the attention to himself by shouting profanities at, well, someone. It was hard to tell who he was yelling at or why. The UFC PR staff seemed at their wits end, and they appealed to Nate to help them restore order.

Nate responded by saying, “I’m out,” and leaving the press conference altogether. Nick was still yelling as the two of them walked off down the hallway.

Say what you will about them, but they always come to fight and they know how to make an exit.

Geniuses, man. How often do I think/talk about Nick Diaz, compared with other fighters at the same point in their careers? I think as the sport develops we're going to see more and more fighters managing their public personas nearly as actively as they do their fighting styles. I suspect that you can find Nate, Nick and Brock Lesnar posting away on alt.promotion.do-it-yourself. That joke works better if you assume it's 1998. I'm going to go listen to Third Eye Blind now.

Nate Diaz's fights are incredibly boring. The guy has had lucky wins, and none of them have been exciting to watch. And whats with his punches?? He punches like a little girl having a slap fight with her friends.

People need to understand where the Diaz brothers grew up. Stockton isn't a place where you go walking around the neighborhood by yourself. It’s one of the toughest neighborhoods in the country. I know they are professional fighters now, but they are still young and still need to SLOWLY get past where they are from and focus on where they want to be. They still train in Stockton so they can't go completely soft. It's like having an accent. You can loose it, but it takes a while and work. I like the Diaz brothers!!! I may not invite them to my wedding but they can come to a party with me anytime!

Of all the problems the Diaz brothers might have, public ignorance of where they grew up is surely not one of them. I mean, Christ -- I know the area code at this point.

whether their being genuine or not, i could never know because i've never met the 2 of them. To anyone that says they're boring, hi, welcome to this sport. It's called mixed martial arts, there's lots of neat stuff that's based off of being on the ground and trying to end the fight with something called a submission hold. This art is known as brazillian ju-jitsu. I suggest YouTubeing some videos on it. When you learn to understand the sport, you'll probably find it much more entertaining to watch. Oh and by the way the sport did not start in 2005, like you might be thinking, it's been in the USA since the mid-90's. P.S. do a google search of the name Gracie, dumbasses.

I named my testicles Nate and Nick Diaz, thats how much I respect them. If you put them two together at their best it still barely matches how much power I use to squirt jizz. But check it out, you punks ain't nobodies for real for real. I wish more real MMA fans would comment on this site so we can talk about real MMA things like the Lindus Wristbar Nosebone Choke and the Akward Nippletwist Burnmark Fling Twister ... some uber-advanced moves that you idiots could never ever comprehend. If anyone wants their jaw twisted or feels like eating liquid food for the next 2 months let me know, I'll be teaching some faggits in the couture gym in the suburbs of chicago how to make people piss blood and shit in a bag for the rest of their miserable lifes.

I will proudly put my support behind both of these kids. Mouthy, yeah. Cocky, yeah. But they bring it, no excuses. And part of the unintelligble banter last night was him giving props to his opponent. So he does have class.
  12. TUF Gut Says:

Because it seems to me you never leave your desk or are you so good that you "coach" via watching guys on a live webcam? Zackary - what is classy about "props to his opponent" when it is unintelligible and includes more swearing than a TUF guy post? Class is what Guida said after his fight.

Class is what Guida said after his fight. The kid has a speech impediment/issue. So what. I'm a white guy from Maine, and I understood what he said. You may not have, and you have your right to dislike him and his brother. I'll give you that. It's more honest then saying "come meet me at Team Irish (my local gym-Marcus Davis) and let's fight because we disagree." Diaz said nothing bad about his opponent, and wished him the best of luck. Calling out KJ Noons is where the swearing started. I'm sorry if I failed at being a keyboard warrior. Will someone train me?

Ok, so I've noticed on several occasions how JoeRo has mentioned fighters from other promotions throughout UFC events. I find this odd seeing as how the UFC is very anti-competition as of late. JoeRo did it again last night when he made reference to Guida's fight with "current Strikeforce LW champ Josh Thomson". Then in Nate Diaz's post fight interview, he mentioned his training partners from CGJJ-Melendez and Shields, and made reference to Noons duckin' his bro Nick, and JoeRo clearly pulled the mic away from Nate as if it was not allowed. What's up with that? Makes no difference to me really, but I've noticed it and thought why the UFC would let Rogan talk about fighters from competing orgs.

I'm surprised that hell hole even has an area code. Nonetheless, those two dudes can fight...or at least one of them still can. If Nick can get his act together and get in shape I'll watch any of his fights because I like his style, but dude is an embarrassment of a human being.

At least they're really themselves none of that fake ass "He's a good guy I admire him a lot" That's all bullshit. Nick and nate know what to do and get it done if you don't like it go watch some fucking golf or something. And if you always complain about "class" well...you're probably a fucking bitch who's never been in a cage fight.

The Diaz brothers can fight, just because they may not be as eloquent as TUF GUY doesn't mean they can't. It's not a speech competition after all. Some of these posters get all caught up on Nate's looks, I think that's weird and sustpect those guys are wrestlers and know dick about BJJ.

Nate needs to learn to strike with some pepper. He reminds me of Mr. Burns from the Simpsons with those cupcake punches. It's a good thing he's good at subs. And yes, it's funny, the Diaz wonder twins always generate tons o' commentary.
  37. Velcro Shoes Says:

Their "weak arm punches" are what knocked the fuck out of Robbie Lawler and Junior Assuncao. Yeah the Diaz boys talk tons of shit, but unlike most fighters they actually back it up. I agree they don't have class like GSP or Silva but I love watching both of them fight. You'll never EVER see a boring fight with either one of them. Who gives a shit about post fight interviews or their antics? Huge respect to Nate for taking on a tough mofo like Neer with absolutely nothing to gain other than respect.

Both punks. Both can go and stay in "209" and act like douchebags over there. Nick is tough that he needs his brother to help call out mediocre fighters. Nick dont want the best fighters. He wants to fight where there is no competition adn get a fancy belt that they made jsut for him, along with the weight class. It is definitely funny when people try acting tough, when they left all the top fighters in his weight class

Also....Real classy move by Diaz when he fought the old ass Wildman Denny. Again it is funny when you feel the need to be cocky when you are so much better than him. The swirling arms, Sugar Ray style he used as Denny was nearly out cold was again the show of the Diaz class. I would love to Diego or GSP or ALves or (enter just about any UFC WW) dance over his ass and mock him as they beat him into hamburger meat. Especially when they KO him, that would be hilarious. His entire "crew" would prolly bust into the cage and have to help him, to show how street and "209" they are

Wanna complain about class? Find a comment section for a Brock Lesnar article. He displayed the biggest lack of class I've ever seen in the cage. Love the Diaz boys. They have the right attitude for the sport. Most of the antics outside the ring are done on purpose. If you can't see that you are rather naive. Can't you see that all that yelling is simply Nick trying to push for his title shot against scaredycat Noons? As for the Diaz boys not having fought many good guys, Nick has fought so many top lightweights and won its stupid he's not in the UFC. Call Gomi a no-one? sheesh, maybe go look up his fight record. As for nate, the dude is young. He's working his way up the ladder. It's not like the UFC has been feeding him cans.

The thing about most people with no character who talk and behave like they're at an English tea party is that nobody will fucking remember you tomorrow. Not everyone gives a fuck about being politically correct or speaking like you're an English professor. There's a time and place for everything and in a fight I'll take the Diaz brothers over all you grammar police people any day. I would love to see someone try to correct either of them on their grammar hahaha. That would be fucking hilarious.
