MMA Video Tribute: 9 ‘Falling Tree’ Knockouts

Why Kimbo Slice Is in Trouble Against Roy Nelson on Next Week’s “Ultimate Fighter”

We know Roy Nelson is going to have an advantage on the ground against Kimbo Slice on next week’s episode of "The Ultimate Fighter," but can he slug with ‘Ferg?  The video evidence suggests, yes he can.  "Big Country" may not be the world’s most technical striker, but he can take a shot and throw one back, and if you’re still standing in the same place when he does it’s probably going to end badly for you.  Just take a look at the video evidence after the jump if you don’t believe us.

BTW, who’s that handsome son of a bitch in the video where Roy talks us through his overhand right?  That guy seems really smart and funny.

Roy Nelson shouldn't even be on the show hes a legit fighter.

honestly, this week was the worst fight i have ever witnessed. how does one go about hurting your cardio enough to gas after the first round (midway through in my opinion). not only that, but it was both of them. amazing. hopefully roy will show em how it's done next week.

Rampage again shows his coaching is lacking by not allowing Kimbo to select his opponent. Why would you give the fight selection to Rashad to match Kimbo up...???!!! Kimbo loses to Big Country and I'll assume Rampage rips down a door. Should be a good episode.

too bad for kimbo he probabally would've knocked out a few of those guys but he cant hang with Roy, anybody think Mcsweeney won that fight?!? they both looked horrible but schivers actually landed a few punches amazingly since mcsissy ran away from him the whole time even when schivers was to tired to stand up. i was dumbfounded when they announced it.
  5. DaltonSwayze Says:

Shivers didn't look terrible on the ground(when adjusted for exhaustion), but he only landed what, maybe one punch of note? McSweeney seemed to be sticking and moving, and his leg kicks were definitely doing damage. I don't understand the people who say Shivers won, though I probably would've scored it a draw to force the third round to see who would drop first How the hell did they come into the biggest opportunity of their career that out of shape?

How did any judge give that first round to McSweeney, that's just nuts. What fight were they watching? He did fuck-all in the first round.
  8. DiazBros209 Says:

Roy Nelson is going to knock him out. He's a BJJ Black Belt, but the belly rubs are more satisfying after a KO. Roy Nelson loves belly rubs more than my dog.

I heard the rumor that Kimbo lost his first fight and stormed out of the house. I couldn't buy it. I got Kimbo's back... Then he got matched up with big ol' Roy. I'm starting to think they were right. I hope Kimbo wins, he needs it.

i agree with One Two that Nelson is too legit to be on the show. They should've gave him the rematch with Rothwell as his first fight in the UFC. We all know he was screwed out of a win in the IFL. Anyone caught the commercial touting Big Ben as the "number1 heavyweight from the IFL"? What a joke. Velasquez is probably gonna stomp him. Should be a good fight though.
  13. whitey Says:

    Wed, 09/23/09 - 10:43

Oh, and don't think for one second that Dana didn't wisper in Rashad's ear about taking Kimbo out early with Roy.
  14. Chri534. Says:

    Wed, 09/23/09 - 11:17

@whitey: Yeah, Roy was Rashad's 5th pick, and 9th overall...
  15. MGalactic Says:

    Wed, 09/23/09 - 11:48

If you watch the first few jab exchanges, Roy doesn't follow up with a straight or a hook. That's bad boxing. Kimbo will beat him up if it stays on the feet.
  16. munche Says:

  18. Frank Mur Says:

I've gotta give Kimbo at least a 50/50 shot on Big Country.
  19. IRISHLOBO Says:

Last night's fight was actually a preview for "TUF 11: Team Starnes v. Team Starnes"
  20. Viva Hate Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 05:33

Last nights figth was an absolute joke, both those guys should have been thrown off for ever putting on a performance like that, they want to be UFC fighters and they did not even make it through the first round with out being gassed. The only positive that could come out of that fight is we finally found 2 people with worse cardio than Mark Coleman. Anyone else have a feeling that next week get to see Rampage mess up a door after Kimbo loses?
  21. K.E.G. Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 05:54

I had a sinking feeling this season was going to go down like this. MMA is alot like (real) wrestling as far as the action in the weight classes go, and most HW a notoriously boring as shit. Once you get out of the upper levels of the division it's a short fall to mediocre talent. I think big Roy will beat Kimbo but it will likely be the best fight of the season so far.
  22. TheFactor Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 06:05

Roy Nelson is like an over weight Chuck Liddell.
  23. Soda Popinski Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 06:55

am i the only one who thinks kimbo's boxing is better than roys? yeah, i know all about roy's 'other' abilities as a fighter. but to me, kimbo's takedown defense could prevent roy from ending this fight on the ground with those 'other' abilities. and i think if this fight stays on the feet, then kimbo has a legit chance to beat him. maybe its just me. personally i think roy is a bit cocky and could use kimbo's fist to his face as a humbling mechanism.
  24. Fight Fan Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 07:00

That was a truly pathetic display last night. Not a shred on martial arts in the whole fight. Wait...is punching a kicking considered a martial art? Couldn't believe that both guys would be standing 15 feet apart with their hands on their knees one minute into the second round, looking at each other with a tacit understanding that they were taking a time-out. Sometimes, both guys should get a loss. This does not bode well for the rest of the season.
  25. Teehee McPeepee Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 07:22

Kimbo defeats Roy via murder in the second.
  26. OpShut Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 07:26

@Shu Nuff - Agreed, not sure how anyone could give the 1st round to McSweeney. Was surprised rampage was not more upset at the decision. @Ben(s) - Does last nights um, fight, provide inspiration for another top 10 list? Ten worst gas-outs in MMA history?? Screen grabs of those two staring at each other from 15 feet away, and the Coleman/Shogun rest period would be some high comedy.
  27. J-Dog Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 07:26

I think big "timber me"-Shivers won that sorry excuse of a fight last night, but hey what do I know.... agreed the lack of cardio displayed on both sides was pretty sad.
  28. Fight Fan Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 07:30

Was it also necessary to replay like 7 minutes from the first episode? "I like the way you work, Kimbo Slice". "Thank you very much, Rampage Jackson" (awkward moment). Yeesh.
  29. K.E.G. Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 07:36

Two of the judges in the gave shivers an 8 in the second round and McSweeny a 10. I'm not saying Shivers should have one the second round but at least call it 9-8. Either way that fight should have gone a third round but not even the judges wanted to sit through any more of that shit and just gave the fight to the least tired of the two.
  30. Viva Hate Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 07:53

I agree with J-Dog, Shrivers won that "fight." I forced myself to watch it two more times, it was agony, but Shrivers did way more and he by far won the first round. Shrivers landed a ton of shots in the first, scored a takedown, and was close on a submission attempt, McSweeney landed a few leg kicks thats it. If anything it should have been a third round.
  31. superflat Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 08:37

Shivers walks around with the look of a defeated man. He depresses me -- that grizzled ex-marine who gives life one more go in a zombie flick before sacrificing himself to save some teen starlet. Also, does it count as a take down if you fall on someone? Nothing tops McSweeny's combination showboating, running away, and then keeling over out of breath.

"Anyone else have a feeling that next week get to see Rampage mess up a door after Kimbo loses?" I remember seeing that incident as part of the promo for the show. But I seriously hope that you're wrong, Viva Hate, 'cause if it turns out to be true, The Drop in viewership for TUF 10 will be DRAMATIC. And I just don't think it makes any sense that Kimbo would lose his first fight UNLESS the Fight ends in a draw, perhaps? How about THAT scenario?
  33. EzMoNeY Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 11:57

could roy nelson make 205 if he did jenny craig for like a month?
  34. Viva Hate Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 12:37

I hope I am wrong also but the odds are against it, Team Rampage is 0-2 so far, if Kimbo loses that will make them 0-3 plus Rampage would lose his top pick. Doesn't look good for ole Kimbo. Look at the bright side, we still have Chuck on Dancing with the Stars for round 2, eh, eh........... There we go big fellas.
  35. UFC fan Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 05:09

Roy Nelson does not impress me, he is a fat man with some cardio who throws punches like a girl. He reminds me of Tank Abbot in he throws and throws and throws and against shitty competition he connects. PLUS he is a douche who thinks he is smarter than coaches who are trying to show him something and wont shut up long enough to listen, seriously, KIMBO hasn't done anything to warrant my hate, so here is hoping he puts fat ass Nelson into instant death.
  36. Clintourious Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 10:31

Too Bad Roy Nelson can't fight with a shirt on cause that motha is FAT! And I think Shivers definitely won that first round but both should have lost due to suckage, that fight was barely more exciting then the first weeks, fight where Rampage's fighter didn't even throw one punch, and he went the full ten. Is Brett Rogers on the Roy Nelson diet? But what is crazy is that Roy goes full steam for the whole fight in all those above clips, he is like a Tele-Tubby-Terminator. I am rooting for Kimbo I actually think him winning will gain more fans for the sport, but if Roy wins and wins the show it wouldn't be bad he has a personality. Both of those statements will piss everyone off.
  37. NipGrip Says:

    Thu, 09/24/09 - 11:16

I will laugh so hard if Big Country knocks out Kimbo. Also, yes I agree, those last fights were the WORST I have ever seen, even on YouTube. I've seen high school fights on Break.com that were better.
  38. peanutbuttter Says:

    Fri, 09/25/09 - 12:33

Roy Nelson is a heavyweight Chuck Liddell.
  39. G Funk Says:

    Fri, 09/25/09 - 07:29

Kimbo was making him look estoopid when they were sparring in the first episode. Plus, I clearly recall seeing kimbo beating the chit out of someone from the up/down position on the trailers to TUF 10. The thing is, it wasnt a big fat guy. So either Kimbo beats Roy and phuicks somebody else up or he loses, and comes back to fight cause someone else could'nt...
