YAMMA 1 Results: Wiuff Wins Three; Butterbean Cries Mercy

(The slim-n-trim Butterbean fell victim to a G-n-P at YAMMA’s debut event.)

Well it finally happened…and without much of a hitch. YAMMA Bowl Fighting went down last night, but apparently it’s still too much to ask for the organization to update their website. Shit, guys, it’s just the click of a few buttons. Anyway, the main story was Travis Wiuff taking his record to 52-11 by winning three fights in the heavyweight tourney to pick up the title. He did so by using the leverage of the bowl’s incline to take his opponents to the ground — which is exactly what Meyrowitz said wouldn’t happen with his ground-breaking new surface.

In other fights, Oleg Taktarov kneebarred Mark Kerr for the win and Butterbean verbally submitted due to a GnP from the fresh-outta-jail Patrick Smith. Overall, really boring night. Out of the eleven battles, seven went to boring decisions and three were less-than-thrilling submissions. There was only one KO — a TKO to be precise. We’ll see where YAMMA goes from here. Our guess is it’ll slip into oblivion.

Here are the full results:

– Oleg Taktarov over Mark Kerr – submission via kneebar
– Patrick Smith over Eric Esch – submission via strikes
– Travis Wiuff over Chris Tuscherer – unanimous decision
– Travis Wiuff over Ricco Rodriguez – unanimous decision
– Chris Tuscherer over Alexey Oleinik – unanimous decision
– Alexey Oleinik over Sherman Pendergarst – submission via choke
– Chris Tuscherer over Tony Sylvester – unanimous decision
– Travis Wiuff over Marcelo Pereira – unanimous decision
– Ricco Rodriguez over George Bush – unanimous decision
– Bryan Vetell over Antwain Britt – unanimous decision
– Lamont Lister over Oleg Savitsky – TKO on strikes

Did you see the gut on Ricco? That fat blob was twice the size of "Butterbuns"...
YAMMA was probably the most pathetic thing I've watched since the last Felony Fights DVD.

my addiction to mma made me order this event. it was pretty bad. the announcer was so bad he made the annoying chick from Pride sound like a young Ann Margaret whispering into my taint. watching Oleg was cool but overall a real shitfest. the pit was retarded and unnecessary. The commentary was assholish..... "I don't like that jumping stuff"(referring to a Superman punch) I think it was Jeff Blatnick, that dinosaur.
what the fuck was I thinking? I will not be getting Yamma 2

Are you kidding? Everybody made it clear how bad the thing was. Did you see Sam Cupitt's write-up on 5 Oz of Pain? Brent Brookhouse was shitting on the thing the entire time on Bloody Elbow.

To some degree, I think going on about how bad it was is a waste of time. Most people expected it to suck. The real surprise would have come if it somehow turned out to be good...which it was not. No need to elaborate on the fruition of a bad idea.

how could you call this a boring night? i think the referees should have reset the guys alot more often since a majority were wrestlers but you cant call the oleg knee bar boring or that cool choke the russian did. i liked the tournament alot more than the super fights and the final fight was decent. the announcer was annoying as fuck but i think for heavyweights it was not that bad. if they do some lighter weight classes i think well see some cool stuff with the pit slope.

damn, i came on here thinking only this blog would have the balls to say it like it is. The event was beyond horrible, up there with the k-1 dynamite US fiasco, and yet no mma sites are willing to say anything besides a quick recap and results. i expect an update with details on exactly how shitty the fights, announcing, and commentating really were.

Oleg Taktarov should have been in the HW tournament. He was the only fighter on the entire card I was even remotely impressed with.
