(Even the awesome WWE-like flamethrowers couldn’t elicit a smile from Fedor “The Stonefaced Killer” Emelianenko)
Your perpetually absent “real dad” Ben Fowlkes spoke on the phone with Fedor
Emelianenko through his interpreter yesterday and covered a lot of topics of interest including the rumors of his foray into Russian politics, his recent comments about the UFC and where he sees himself after he finishes his Strikeforce contract.
According to “The Last Emperor” reports that he is entertaining the prospect of entering into regional politics in his Russian hometown of Stary Oskol are without merit.
“I’m not thinking about a political career,” he explained to Fowlkes. “While I am performing, while I am competing in mixed martial arts, I’m not thinking about anything else.”
Although it was unclear whether he meant that he isn’t willing to talk about the possibility that he will look to be elected in the upcoming election while concentrating on his fight this weekend, or of he simply isn’t planning on running, his sentiments were made clear during a Q&A session following yesterday’s open media workout ahead of Saturday night’s “Fedor vs. Werdum” event.
“The talk about me entering politics are false rumors,” Emelianenko said. “As long as I am competing in MMA, there will be no politics for me.”
What he did make crystal clear was that when he said he wasn’t a fan of the UFC, he meant that he wasn’t a fan of watching any MMA promotion’s events.
“I did not want to offend the UFC in any way. What I meant is, I don’t like to watch fights in general. My main concern is what kind of culture I bring, myself. It has always been for me that some fighters would appear and people would want to see me in matches against these fighters. That will always happen.”
He went on to say that when his two remaining fights are up on his current Strikeforce contract, he would entertain any offers the UFC may put forward for him.
“As for the UFC, when my contract with Strikeforce is over – I have two fights left on my contract – the UFC will have the time and the opportunity to prepare and offer a contract that may be interesting to me.”
To up the ante, Dana White and co. may want to think about throwing in a flavor of the month membership from Baskin Robbins or a Pink Berry franchise to any offer they make.
