Morning Beatdown: Mac Danzig vs. Tommy Speer
So, Mac Danzig proved a few things at Saturday’s Ultimate Fighter 6 finale: 1) I should really stop making public predictions. 2) Experience trumps raw power. 3) With his killer ground-and-pound and the ability to end nearly every fight in a rear naked choke, Danzig may already be a top-5 contender in the UFC’s lightweight division. The UFC is pretty aggressive about pulling their vids from YouTube, so get it while it’s hot…

I am confused, they are
1) The same weight.
2) Mac is shorter
Therefore
3) Mac is more compact and has more muscle mass.
Why do they talk about how strong tommy is. Honestly, lets increase the height difference a little bit. Who would you rather fight
1) 6′0″ 170 lbs reach 70″ or
2) 5′8″ 170 lbs reach 70″
I am pretty shore the short guy will win every time given equal experience

That is just the weigh in weight, tommy speer is actually much heavier walking around in daily life.Plus at the time of the fight you can put money on speer being at least 190 and mac struggling to be 170 (because he’s a vegan).Tommy IS heavier and has MORE muscle mass than mac
December 11th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Taivras, you obviously don’t know anything about fighting do you? I am not saying Tom is better than Mac, but the amount of muscle mass a person has means nothing if you don’t know how to use it. You also need to know how to fight. Muscle is important, but it isn’t as important as you think if you don’t know how to use it.
December 11th, 2007 at 1:46 pm
Mac doesn’t cut any weight to fight at 170lb, tommy cuts a lot. Tommy probably walks around at 190-200lb. A few days before weigh ins he cuts a lot of weight, mostly water weight, weighs in the night before the fight, then rehydrates and by the time he steps into the cage he’s back at 190lb or whatever and has 20lb on mac. That’s why he’s stronger.
December 11th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
Oops sorry didn’t see the comment that explained the wieght/strength difference.
December 11th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Eric, before you start offending people, make sure you read their full post first. Taivras said at the end of his post “given equal experience”. In that case muscle does make a big difference.
December 11th, 2007 at 3:55 pm
I like how you post this video but nothing of the War Machine VS. J-Rock fight, that was the best fight of the night
December 11th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
I love watching guys fight. If you like girls stripping, perhaps we should talk online at ; ) http://www.dailystripshow.com
December 11th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
Nah Jared the best fight of the night was Huerta vs. Guida, now that was a wickid fight
December 11th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
Let’s have them square off in space where they both weigh 0 and see who’s a tough guy
December 11th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
I love tater tots. They are great.
December 11th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
Danzig looks like he could challenge already…
December 11th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Taivras, you are ignorant. Have you ever heard of cutting weight? Tommy Speers naturally walks around at least 20 pounds heavier then Mac Danzigs natural weight. You know nothing about mma, don’t open your mouth.
December 11th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
I am 5′10″ and weigh in around 225-230 during normal days. I fight at 205. I can almost gaurentee, since there are always exceptions to the rules, that I have more muscle mass then someone who is also 5′10″ and weighs between 195 and 205 on a daily basis.
With equal skills I would win more often then not. Things that can throw that off would be someone with an exceptionally long reach, lucky shots, mistakes, etc.
Mac simply was more skilled then Tommy.
December 11th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
You mean more skilled “than” Tommy, go back to school.
December 11th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
It’s always good to see those with low IQs who don’t have an intelligent argument resort to insulting one’s grammar. What a douche.
December 11th, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Sound pretty confident in yourself eh Jeremy?
December 11th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Once I saw the retarded comment from Taviras I wanted to shoot myself cuz I knew most if not every single comment afterwards would be correcting him as if the first one wasnt enough. Ya anyways J-Roc vs War Machine was a fucking amazing fight. War-Machines a fucking bad ass dude and I hope he gets more fights in the UFC because I can see him being a high energy fighter like Huerta or Guida if he gets more cardio.
December 11th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Also, no more fucking talking and or correcting about the weight issue, we get it already…..
December 11th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Taivras:
1.they were the same weight at the weight in(which is the day before the fight). just about every fighter cuts weights. they do that in wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, mma, and possibly ice skating.
2. mac actually weighted in at 168, and weighted 168 the day of the fight, which is lighter than required 170. and the kickers is MAC DOES NOT CUT WEIGHT. while tommy probably weighted about 195lb to 200lbs(possibly more) on fight day. so yes, in theory, tommy should have been much stronger.
3. no, short guys don’t necessary win everytime. taller guys have reach advantage on their feet, and advantage on the ground as well because it’s easier to pull of some of the submissions. there are way too many variables in mma to just contribute a win or lose to one factor, such as height.
December 11th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Stay tuned, fellas…I’m going to post the third round of that War Machine/J-Roc fight on the site tomorrow morning.
December 11th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
The Dave:
You have to be confident. You can’t go into fights saying to yourself ” Man I am gonna lose”. I lose sometimes. No one is perfect, as can be seen by my spelling/gramatical error above, which was so quickley pointed out by Senex.
December 11th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
you are WRONG Taivras. Have you ever heard of weight cutting? If you think tommy speer is walking around 170 lbs you are dead wrong. He cut weight to make 170 lbs. He is OBVIOUSLY bigger than danzig. I would give him at least a 20 lb advantage.
December 11th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
i love tater tots too. they’re really great.
December 11th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
of course mac won, he is glenn danzigs son!
December 11th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
@Taivras
Tommy is a farm boy so he’s got some crazy hidden farm-working strength.
December 11th, 2007 at 11:46 pm
u guys are all retarted it doesnt matter how big or small they are the man reason why mac won is because of how he has more experience in the cage and how he trains…if u guys watched the fight on tv you would see how both of them trained tommy had his own little course thing he would do to make himself stronger and have more endurance but he never trained with ne one, there was no training in the cage..now mac on the other hand went to a gym worked on both endurance n strength ALSO he trained in the cage wit people doin BJJ, stand up, you name he was doing it, while tommy didnt train the right way for the fight..
December 11th, 2007 at 11:48 pm
Does anyone really watch this gay crap anymore?
December 12th, 2007 at 12:54 am
Ok… all these comments about “tommy cuts weight” et cetera are starting to bug me. People are stupid. Can anyone provide proof where it says that if you have more weight you are actually stronger than someone of close weight? Idiots. you can be a fat asshole and you might be weaker than a guy 20 pounds lighter than you. Strength has to do with muscle NOT weight. People are really stupid.. anyway..
December 12th, 2007 at 1:41 am
Mike is right. If Ben and Jerry’s made you stronger, why are people even in the gym? Right?…I mean, right guys?
December 12th, 2007 at 11:20 am
Mike…
Do either of those guys look fat to you? If two people are atheletes and they both have extremely low body fat %, and one weighs 20lbs more than the other… that one is more than likely a hell of a lot stronger. Do you really think people would sit in a sauna in a trashbag suit on an exercise bike and sweat off 20lb of water if it didn’t give them any advantage in their sport?? You are the stupid one…
December 13th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Taivras, you are a moron. You are commenting on something you obviously know NOTHING about.
January 15th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
did anyone actually think tommy stood a chance in the first place? Tommy is very over rated. i had money on danzig taking him out in the first. in the fights he won on the show what did he demonstrate? good stand up? no. good takedowns? no. good ground work? no. Good ground and pound? not really. he beat war machine, becuase he’s a fucking head case and pussed out in the second. he beat george, becuase george is over rated as well.
January 25th, 2008 at 12:38 am
Danzig had way too much experience to lose agaist Speer.
When’s he fighting again?
February 4th, 2008 at 4:17 am
Jeremy Says:
December 11th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
I am 5′10″ and weigh in around 225-230 during normal days.
5′10 and 230?!?! you must be one fat fukk!!
March 19th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
5′10″ @ 230 doesn’t make you fat. I’m 5′8″ and 230, but then again I’m at 8% body fat, bench 270, and run 2 miles in 15:40. Muscle weighs more than fat retard.
April 16th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
2 miles in 15:40? hahahahhahaha what a bitch go back to the gym assclown
