Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

According to Dana White, Nate Diaz and Johny Hendricks Will Receive a Title Shot With A Win Saturday

(Pictured above: Nate Diaz and a pre-beard Johny Hendricks.)

Yesterday, the UFC and FOX held an open media conference call, which featured UFC President Dana White, middleweight contender and FOX analyst Brian Stann, and Fox Sports Media Group Co-President Eric Shanks taking questions prior to this weekend’s UFC on FOX event. Among the questions to come up was one regarding the likelihood of the Nate Diaz/Jim Miller winner receiving the next title shot at 155 pounds. True to form, Dana White did not beat around the bush, declaring that to be true for at least half of the participants involved:

Should Diaz win, Diaz is definitely getting a title shot. Should Miller win, Miller’s probably going to be a fight or two away.

White when on to state that the same applied for Johny Hendricks should he get past Josh Koscheck on Saturday, whereas our boy Fraggle would have to get a couple more wins under his belt. Considering that both Koscheck and Miller recently suffered losses to the current champions of their respective weight classes (twice over if your Koscheck), this seems to make sense.

Diaz is only 2-0 since returning to lightweight, but his victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 141 was so utterly dominant that it set a record for strikes landed in a three round fight. A win over Miller would provide all we need to know about Nate’s future at 155 *cough* can he defend a takedown? *cough*. Miller recently bounced back from a unanimous decision loss to current champ Ben Henderson by submitting Melvin Guillard in January, but we all know that he needs at least eight victories in a row to earn a title shot, so it’s gonna be a while.

Speaking of win streaks, if Hendricks is able to best Koscheck, it would be his fourth victory in a row and eighth out of the nine fights he has had while under the UFC banner, so a title shot seems justified at this point. Koscheck, on the other hand, has scored two straight against Matt Hughes and Mike Pierce, but his aforementioned pair of losses to Georges St. Pierre doesn’t really give him anywhere to go at the moment. Then again, who knows who will be the champ after GSP/Condit goes down, whenever the hell that may be.

You can listen to the conference call in its entirety here.

So what do you think, Potato Nation? Does Diaz deserve a shot? And if so, how do you think he’d fare against Henderson, or Frankie Edgar for that matter?

Make sure to swing by CagePotato this Saturday, as we’ll be liveblogging all the action starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. WT.

His win over Cerrone was anything but dominant. If he had finished the fight maybe you could call it dominant. But he didn't. He threw 87 billion jabs and got knocked down numerous times. He won purely via volume of strikes thrown. It will from this day forth be called blanket striking. He is the Jake Shields of punching.

I'd put even odds on Edgar vs Diaz. Probably give a slight edge to Henderson in a fight with Diaz.

What doesnt make sense is the fact that Jake Ellenberger may get Royally a$$-banged if Hendricks gets the title shot. Jake Ellenberger has won 6 in a row and some think he beat Condit. If Jake beats Kampmann in his next fight, that will be 7 wins in a row, and 8 considering the Condit fight. Hendricks has 3 wins in a row, and IF he beats Kos, that will be 4 in a row. That makes Hendricks a better candidate for a title shot? GSP vs Condit will not happen until end of 2012. SO if Herndricks gets next title shot, that fight wont be until about April 2013. That means Jake will have to keep winning till at least next year mid summer to get a title shot by the end of 2013. And that ONLY if Diaz doesnt get a remtch. It may be 2014 b4 he gets a shot if Diaz is considered. So it is possible Jake will need 9 or 10 in a row by that time

HAHAHA, Diaz wins 2 fights and all of the sudden he is the shit at 155? Please...

Yeah I am pretty sure someone said that when he fought Oliveira too. How'd that turn out? Oh yeah Jim tapped him in the 1st round. For a minute ther I thought Jim was a black belt in BJJ as well.

Dear Cage Potato, Why do you try to give my computer virus's every once in a while? I just blocked one today similar to the one from a week ago. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR SECURITY. Have you not at least noticed the Russian spam bots? Like the one below?... you guys are really startin to make me wonder why I bother coming here anymore, it's certianly not for the Brock Lesnar fake-ass-wrasslin' articles. I'm going back to following old dad. I am not impressed with your performance

ExpectJesusBro - Not sure what youre talking about with "viruses" from CP - I am seeing nothing liek that using Chrome. HOWEVER - It is fucking NOON eastern time and there hasnt been an update yet today. Maybe Break Media should just shitcan this whole site instead of letting it die a slow painful death with shitty Wrasslin stories and part time writer/editors that dont know how to proofread shit.

    Thu, 05/03/12 - 09:08

@ Expect Jesus - We inform our IT department whenever there is an issue, but there's little else us writers can do otherwise. @amsterdam - As you know, Ben recently had a child, so things have been a bit hectic as of late, especially without Mike. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, whatever that may be. If you guys really wanted to help...nevermind, we know you'd rather just bitch.

I thought Ellenberger beat Condit, and I had money on condit. Ellenberger against Condit and Simpson against tom lawler, two fights where I made the wrong bet but won money anyway thanks to terrible judges.

  17. ashy_larry Says:

    Thu, 05/03/12 - 11:05

Teehee McPeepee: Doesn't really matter either way. Jim is just as good if not better than Diaz on the ground. Both are great at BJJ. Jim a Black belt and Nate a Brown belt.

    Thu, 05/03/12 - 11:14

Dangada - Ive been coming to this site since like Day 1 and Ive been coming to break since it was Big-Boys. I didnt know Ben had a kid, and ya I know Mike is gone. I didnt realize that to keep the site functioning every member has to contribute. I'll keep that in mind as I manage my staff and customer's 650+ offices and the thousands of pieces of gear I have scattered through them. I just want some fucking MMA news. Im pretty loyal to the site and Break but I dont have time to be a "part time" writer, sleuthing for stories (for free) for fuck's sake. Far easier to find another site, you dig? If you cant handle legitimate criticism, maybe you should find some other shit to do?
  19. DangadaDang Says:

    Thu, 05/03/12 - 11:41

I understand where you're coming from, but suggesting we "shitcan the site" is not a legitimate, constructive criticism in any way, shape, or form. I'm basically the only one working today, and I'm trying my best to edit contributor pieces and write up original pieces at the same time. I'm not saying you have to contribute, I'm just saying to look at it from a different perspective than your own is all. But like I said, I have thick skin, so bring it on. Whenever I respond, however, everyone seems to have just the opposite. Again, my apologies for the inconvenience.
  20. amsterdamheavy Says:

Dangaga: My bitches are directed at whoever is actually managing this site now. If thats you, fine, but I dont think it is. You contribute a lot to the site whether I like it all isnt necessarily relevant. Pass my bitch along to whoever is ultimately responsible for the site content, cause shit IS slipping around here. I dont know if this site doesnt make money for whoever or what, but it isnt what it used to be either. Also the "shitcan it or fix it" methodology is legitimate. WHy let something die a slow languishing death? - just pull the plug and be done with it if thats where it is ultimately going.
