Anthony Pettis Out of UFC 163 With Knee Injury; ‘Korean Zombie’ to Replace Him Against Jose Aldo

(Replace the number ’162′ with ’163′, and this promo is still pretty damn relevant. / Props: TheSuperactiontv)

Anthony Pettis‘s divisional line-cutting has apparently angered the vengeful MMA Gods, who have struck down the crowd-pleasing striker with a knee injury. UFC president Dana White just confirmed the bad news, saying that Pettis is officially out of his scheduled featherweight title fight against Jose Aldo, which was slated to go down at UFC 163, August 3rd at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Pettis described the injury as a “small tear in my meniscus,” but didn’t give a specific timetable on his return.

So that’s the bad news. The good news is, Pettis has already been replaced by a title-challenger who’s actually earned a crack at the 145-pound belt: Chan Sung Jung, better known to us Westerners as “The Korean Zombie.” Jung was originally scheduled to face Ricardo Lamas in a likely #1 contender bout at UFC 162 next month, but has now been fast-tracked to a title fight in order to rescue the UFC 163 main event.

“TKZ” is 3-0 in the UFC, with incredible stoppage victories against Leonard Garcia (via twister submission), Mark Hominick (via seven-second KO), and Dustin Poirier (via d’arce choke, in a Fight of the Year candidate last May).

So who’s your pick in Aldo vs. Zombie? And is this a more interesting matchup to you than Aldo vs. Pettis?

My cousin's nephew's uncle's great-grandmother makes 34$/hour giving rusty trombones at the bus terminal. She has been out of a job for six months but last month her paycheck was $34 just working at the bus terminal for a few hours. Read more on this web site... xnxx.com

So we're now stuck watching someone fight for the belt who actually earned a shot at it? Oh well.

Zombie better practice defending/checking those leg kicks.
dipsetkilla316- June 14, 2013 at 5:20 pm
@friedempanada That depends on what your definition of butt fucking is.
dipsetkilla316- June 14, 2013 at 5:16 pm
@miles dude fighter evolve, and get better u can't judge a fighter on a fight he had 3 years ago. Ok Aldo got subed by Luciano Azevedo so fucking wat does that mean he sucks. It's a shame the pettis fight didn't happen, but it's not a shame that TKZ is stepping in.
dipsetkilla316- June 14, 2013 at 5:12 pm
WAR TKZ my favorite fighter by far, the guy is ultra tough, and in his last 3 fights has shown that he is a complete fighter, and is a monster when it comes to
Subs. If zombie can weather the early storm of Aldo, and drag the fight into the later stages Aldo will gass, and zombie will have an opportunity to try to make something happen. Sucks for pettis I thought he had a good shot at beating Aldo.

@VengeVega I dunnoooo, did you see him fight George Roop?

This is truly a shame, I can't think of a fight I was looking forward to more :/

This is like a bad omen. I looked at this as the proto-superfight to usher in a great era of superfights being booked and then actually contested for the gratification of the plebian masses, but now it's just back to business as usual.

I don't care who you are, coming off a long layoff due to injury and then facing Aldo = bad news for anyone.

If Ricardo "Lorenzo" Lamas ever gets tired of the butt-fucking from the UFC, he can go to Bellator and get reamed over there.

Somewhere, someplace Ricardo Lamas is clubbing a baby seal.

Seal clubs are the hippest of all clubs.

If we find out Pettis hurt his knee kicking fat cross-eyed dudes covered in bubble-wrap, I'm gonna go batshit crazy!
coolsnow7- June 14, 2013 at 11:48 am
Should have given it to Lamas.
danomite- June 14, 2013 at 11:45 am
well this just ruined my fucking day. he probably tore his meniscus practicing some fucking amazing spinning shit that he was gonna use to knock out aldo and now I might not get to see it.

I also just realized I miss-read that completely, and I apologize.

His victory against Mark Hominick came via first-round TKO, not second. And yes, I like this match up much more. I literally yelled in excitement for 30 seconds upon reading this. The MMA Gods have intervened and justice has been served. Plus, this gives Cub Swanson a chance to avenge his loss against Ricardo lamas, which he's certainly worthy of a shot at by now. One of these things didn't belong, and it was Anthony Pettis. I'm just hoping Jose doesn't sport any rising sun gear.
