B.J. Penn's Camp Files Formal Complaint Over Vaseline on St. Pierre's Back Between Rounds
B.J. Penn's camp has filed a formal complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission over Vaseline that was allegedly rubbed on Georges St. Pierre's back between rounds one and two. UFC president Dana White said at the post-fight press conference that he was aware of the complaint, and said he personally witnessed members of the commission take the Vaseline away from GSP's camp and rebuke them in the Octagon between rounds.
"I saw the commission jump up there and flip out," said Dana White. "They said one of the guys was rubbing Vaseline on Georges' back in between rounds. It was one and two, I think."
"The guys from the athletic commission went up there and started screaming at them, knocked the Vaseline and kicked the Vaseline out of the Octagon."
White added that "some Vaseline on a guy's back didn't change the outcome of that fight, but you don't do it," and said the blame should fall on the cornerman responsible and not GSP.
"If a guy was intentionally putting Vaseline on a guy's back, he should never corner a mixed martial arts fight again."
As for what becomes of the complaint now, White said it's out of his hands.
"Who knows. That's up to the commission."
Update: A member of Penn's entourage tells Fighters Only that GSP came out for round two "covered in Vaseline," adding that the "“whole [of Penn’s] team is pissed off."

i really think superfights are kind of retarded because for the most part guys are in the divisions they are in for a reason. its the weight they perform best at, and thats where i want to see them, and that is where more definitive statements about fighters are made, at their best weight.

i wanted this fight to happen for months, and seeing how BJ was fighting after the second round showed that there was something wrong with him. I mean, even with all jj, he just couldnt keep guard, couldnt fight off the GSP in the side control. It was like he couldnt do anything but lie there. I didnt want to see it end like that. GSP is an awesome fighter, but I think there was something wrong with Penn.

One good thing to come from WAMMA is an actual ranking system. The UFC currently hands title shots to those they believe can garner the best ppv buys (generaly) and not often on who is deserving. Tonight was a prime example. There is no reason why BJ should have gotten a title shot at 170. He hasn't won at 170 in awhile. Being a champ of another weight class does not mean auto-contender at every other, just ask A. Silva. Another example is Lesnar.
Sounds like money and hype to me.
I get what you are saying, but if the UFC maintains this level of dominance, with its current business model, then this sport will never reach true legitimacy.

The ranking system is meaningless, no offense to anyone whose food and rent comes from the creation of such. Belts are for organizations, and you know that calling Aoki the best LW and giving him a belt while BJ, sherk and Florian are all fighting eachother is hogwash (utter hogwash, you hear!).
The best ppv buys = the fight that the most people want to see. Sometimes, this sucks. Ortiz shamrock is a good case. But that maybe happens once a year in the main fight. Title shots are hard to dish out in divisions like LHW where its got 13 guys who could probably take it. Meaningless titles? How long before Fedor or Aoki fight some trash? Every organization does the same thing. I mean C'mon, barnett vs yvel when Buentallo was on the undercard?
I would love it if another organization came along with a loose contract status that let fighters jump around to help at the top level sort this out, it would be fun. But not if they suck - i.e. paying guys like kimbo and silvia hundreds of thousands of dollars, enacting in shady business with SHADY people (EXC and Affliction, anyone?). We need another pride. but we don't have one.

I have never been one to appreciate the lack of respect in MMA which heralds it's self as different from street brawling because of the mutual respect fighters have for each other. I appreciate GSP's attitude and conduct in interviews as it is professional and humble, which are noble qualities. I saw them rubbing the vaseline on GSP's upper back and chest and shoulders, It started in the first round. His corner men was applying vaseline on his face and then he slowly went around to his back and chest upper neck adn shoulders, they were trying to play it off like he was contracting GSP's chest and back to aide his breathing.
