Exclusive: Carlos Condit Talks UFC 143 Matchup With Nick Diaz

UFC 143 Diaz vs. Condit: Video Interview Carlos Condit – Watch More MMA Videos

We’re about two weeks away from UFC 143‘s interim welterweight title bout between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit, a fight that will mark Condit’s first Octagon appearance since he wrecked Dong Hyun Kim in July. In the ensuing months, Condit has had to remain focused while big opportunities appeared and disappeared with maddening regularity. Finally, his wait is over, and the Natural Born Killer will be able to test his skills against a man who many MMA pundits consider to be the #2 welterweight behind Georges St. Pierre. Our buddy Sal Mora caught up to Condit recently to get his thoughts about Nick Diaz and the challenges of balancing fighting with the rest of his life. Thanks so much to Carlos for the time; visit for more. Some highlights from our interview…

On Diaz’s attitude and antics: “I’ve never met the guy, so honestly I don’t have much of an opinion. I think that we’re fortunate to be doing what we’re doing for a living. We get paid to train, we get paid to fight, and we get paid to do what we like to do. I think he’s got kind of a bad attitude when it comes to being grateful for the position he’s in. But other than that, like I said, I don’t really know the guy.”

On fighters who create a persona to attract more attention: ”When I was younger, I felt like I wasn’t getting the notoriety or the exposure that some of these other guys were getting. But ultimately, when it came down to it, I just gotta be myself, and that’s carried me as far and got me as much exposure and notoriety as somebody acting a fool.”

On the possibility of going five rounds for the first time in his career: ”My training camp’s been longer, just putting a lot more endurance training into it, and sparring more rounds. Even when I was fighting three-round fights, if we would go the distance or go close to the distance, I still felt like I had another couple rounds in me, so endurance has been one of my strong points and I’m not worried about a five-round fight.”

On New Mexico: “We don’t have a whole lot going on here, but we put out some of the best fighters in the world, and we have for decades. Being part of that tradition is something that I’m really proud of. I’m excited to go in and do my best, represent myself, represent my family, my team, my hometown.”

Conduit has a very long body to punch. I think Diaz wins by 'canceling each other out'. I think Conduit wins by 'he's never faced anyone like this before'.

I got the Mexican on this one.

Im not sure if Diaz has ko power or not, it seems like he chooses to throw more punches instead of just a few power punches, but he ko'd lawler.
Phatdan78- January 20, 2012 at 10:29 am
Im kinda sick of hearing about Nicks pitter patter punching. For a guy with no power he sure has a lot of tko's. I wouldn't say he has one punch knock out power, but the dude has power. He has some of the best body shots in mma. If the punches didn't hurt he wouldn't back everyone up.

Diaz by TKO punches in bunches, every time someone says "he has never faced anyone like this" he proves them wrong, no submissions just pitter patter punches and strong jabs to the face until Condit is bloody then around round 4 TKO, then a double barreled bird flip to the camera for good measure!

Diaz has been working a lot on his "rear naked whatever" and I hear that he even subbed the black belted dynamo Michael Bisping.

Well if this is going to come down to your classic grammar vs shittalk match I got Diaz by rear naked whatever.

Captcha = nofak you

I shit you not.

I've been a "Conduit" fan for a number of years, and hope he beats some sense into Nick's thick head. I look forward to seeing someone actually kick Nick for once, too.

I don't know, WARBONG makes a good point.
the best defense for proper English is the old "Yeah? Well, FUCK YOU!"

Dog Dick Magoo has made me a believer.
I am going to take Carlos Condit in the first round via "Scanners"-esque melon erruption due to Condit saying a complete sentence with proper structure containing a subject, noun, and a predicate, action or verb that also lacks double negatives.
Here is a preview of what Diaz has to look forward to.

Holy SHIT! A CP exclusive, complete with banner and everything? Wow gentlemen, are we going legit or something?
Dog Dicks Magoo- January 20, 2012 at 7:51 am
@The12ozCurls Absolutely. Condit will put a whole sentence together and Nick's head will explode. Mind blown. Literally.
The12ozCurls- January 20, 2012 at 7:37 am
@Dog Dicks Magoo
Are you saying that Diaz is going to tap due to grammar?
Seems legit. Put me down for a grand.
the silver hawaiian- January 20, 2012 at 7:37 am
Condit by superior articulation
Dog Dicks Magoo- January 20, 2012 at 7:31 am
I got Condit via superior knowledge of the english language.
