Jones vs. Rampage Agreed for UFC 135 in Denver; Two Heavyweight Bouts Also Added

(Quinton Jackson warily high-fives Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban at the 1st Annual Pornstar Ball in Las Vegas, back in 2009. Seriously.)

The UFC announced yesterday that light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson have agreed to square off at UFC 135, September 24th at the Pepsi Center in Denver. It will be Jones’s first title defense, after winning the belt from Mauricio Rua in March. Meanwhile, Jackson is riding back-to-back decision wins over Lyoto Machida and Matt Hamill. It may not pack the kind of grudge-match heat that Jones vs. Rashad would have had, but at least Jones and Jackson disagree on the motorboating issue. So, anybody think Rampage actually has a chance against the young phenom?

A pair of heavyweight scraps have also been reportedly added to the event…

- Travis Browne vs. Rob Broughton. Not exactly a step up for Browne, who’s coming off his dramatic knockout of Stefan Struve at UFC 130. Still, Broughton is on a five-fight win streak and won his UFC debut last October by choking out Vinicius Queiroz at UFC 120.

- Mark Hunt vs. Ben Rothwell. Hunt snapped a six-fight losing streak when he knocked out Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127 in February. Rothwell is coming off a decision win over Gilbert Yvel last June, but hasn’t been active since then due to knee surgery.

UFC 135 will also feature Matt Hughes vs. Diego Sanchez, and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto’s return against Damacio Page.

I think out of Rampage, Rashad, Phil Davis and Machida,
Rampage has the least chance of defeating Jones. The only interesting thing about this fight would be the face-off.

You people are CRAZY ! Rampage will win ? Jones will play patty cake with Rampages head . Jones might have a lot of people hanging on his nuts ,( WTF ??? ),but he's still faster than Rampage on any day of the week . I don't know what Evens did to piss of Dana , but , this is why it's starting to look like the WWE every week . As long as you can make Dana a buck , you have a future with his company .

Are people really picking Page? Besides his KO of Wandy his last 5 octagon performances have been trash.
mentasm- June 16, 2011 at 3:35 pm
Jones is no longer quick.... he has waaaaaay to many people hanging off his nuts these days. Rampage by KO somewhere in the first 3.

i am taking Rampage
KidDinomite- June 16, 2011 at 12:05 pm
I'm more interested in seeing who Machida is gonna take on next. I would bet it's most likely Ryan Bader after he retires Tito.
Fried Taco- June 16, 2011 at 11:42 am
@bgoldstein - that's because of the disastrous motorboat accident involving almost all the female pornstars. Even with so many pictures and video, they could never identify the perpetrator because it was always to dark to see his face.

thats not mark cuban. its simon cowell
djp1988- June 16, 2011 at 10:47 am
*Sigh... White people...* - Rampage's thought at the exact moment this picture was taken.
towelie- June 16, 2011 at 10:21 am
I'll take Rampage in this one. KO round 1 @ 1:57, no 3:45. Write that shit down.
RwilsonR- June 16, 2011 at 10:10 am
@ BGold - Awww... does that mean Anthony Weiner won't get to take Ginger Lee?
RwilsonR- June 16, 2011 at 10:09 am
I'd rather see a Rothwell vs Big Cuntry rematch.
bgoldstein- June 16, 2011 at 10:07 am
By the way, a 2nd Annual Pornstar Ball never took place.

Jones will probably KO Rampage but Rampage always has a chance against anyone, anywhere. If he is intense, he could pull it off.
Should be fun to watch, anyhow.

If evans engages with Davis, it will be a tough fight for him to win. If he doesn't engage like he did with Silva he wins by pitty pat punches and movement.

^Get a rope.
El Guapo- June 16, 2011 at 9:42 am
One last hurrah for Rampage? Or is he a dead man walking??
Me likey- June 16, 2011 at 9:30 am
rampage is gonna get embarassed. evans has got to get past phil davis now and that is no small task. evans may not get a shot at jones. instead he will have to settle for racial defimation on twitter.

IMO at this point they're probably just trying to ensure Jones has a little more momentum going before he fights Rashad. Rashad isn't really a threat to Jones on paper, but there's a lot of bad blood there and I wouldn't be surprised to see an upset... Rashad's gonna start hating the Jones even more now that his former arch nemesis is getting the title shot first.

Jones was gonna have to beat the fuck outta' Page at some point in time - might as well be sooner rather than later.

rashad is sitting in a corner covered in a blanket rocking bacj and forth with his lower lip quivering, trying to figure out the exact moment it all went wrong. and wondering if he could in fact make the flux capacitor work so he could go back and change it.

how joe silva and DW thought rampage vs jones was going to be a good fight is beyond me..

one's a billionaire, one's a fighter, one's a stoner, one's a douchebag, and the other one's a whole lota cunty.. which one is which?

easy i know, but true all the same
LoganasaurusRex- June 16, 2011 at 8:58 am
No idea why we aren't seeing Rashad/Jones. Also, a questionable win over Machida and a boring win over Hammill gets you the title? I think Dana White was simply thinking, "Anyone but Rashad; Fuck that guy."
Fatty McDickbutts- June 16, 2011 at 8:51 am
@ Mr. Fried Taco: I'd still suck Cheetos out of her ass.
ArmFarmer- June 16, 2011 at 8:49 am
I want to see Machida Jones.. terrible match up for Rampage. Machida is the only lhw that I think poses a threat in terms of style. Jones reach, speed, timing, and wrestling is going to make for a long night for Rampage.. or possibly a very short one.
Fatty McDickbutts- June 16, 2011 at 8:48 am
Somewhere out there, Evans is softly crying himself to sleep on the couch in his dimly lit living room.. The T.V. infomercial that is playing in front of him is muted, the only thing audible is Rashad sobbing tenderly into his pillow.
