Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Melvin Guillard Violates Probation, Goes Directly to Jail

We previously mentioned that UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard had to pull out of his UFC 90 bout with Spencer Fisher for undisclosed reasons. Well, now those reasons are disclosed — and it ain’t lookin’ good. Sherdog is reporting that the Young Assassin is in custody at the Harris County jail in Houston, due to an August 13th arrest for violating probation on a 2007 drug charge. Guillard will be released to a drug treatment facility “as soon as space becomes available per the terms of his recently amended probation.” And it probably won’t be one of those cushy drug treatment facilities that lets patients take days off to go fight in Chicago, so there you have it.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Guillard has had drug/legal trouble since his UFC career began in 2005. The New Orleans native was suspended for eight months after testing positive for cocaine following a submission loss to Joe Stevenson at UFC Fight Night 9 in April 2007. (Guillard admitted using the drug six days before the fight, thinking it would be out of his system within 72 hours.) Four months later, he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, but got off with a fine and two years probation — which he has now violated.

If you’ve been keeping score, that’s three strikes. Unfortunately, Guillard’s not nearly valuable enough to the UFC for them to keep giving him chances; we’d expect a semi-official announcement of his dismissal sometime this week. Guillard is still an exciting-enough fighter to continue to get work in smaller shows, but we’re more concerned about his health and well-being at this point. Let’s hope his latest incident compels him to clean up for good…

damn, i'm half black and half white so i don't know what to do...oh yeah here it goes, melvin is an exciting fighter, i would've loved to see him fight spencer and doing drugs and being black are not synonomous with one another. and Krazy, just b/c you don't have a problem with the slur doesn't mean you can represent the opinion of all whites.

@ Krazy Kracker: "This article should not raise debate about race. Instead, judge those with poor integrity, willpower, and the consequences of their decisions. FTW..."

Surprised I haven't heard anything about this, but I had to evacuate because of our friend Ike. That being said I trained with Melvin before his fight with Rich Clementi. Yves Edwards is a genius, despite what WWE-esque XC fights show. Mel has crazy talent, unfathomable speed and crushing power. He also never gets tired. I thought he had his shit together and was becoming a legit ground artist, but this makes me want to cry. Wasted talent like I've never seen.

PS: I have no problems with that slur. ^^^ This is my actual nickname and I named my dog Cracker cuz she's white. This article should not raise debate about race. Instead, judge those with poor integrity, willpower, and the consequences of their decisions. FTW, I'm out.

crackers are called crackers cuz they used to crack the whip. I see no way thats an insult. Then again i never found the N word so harsh anyways. It essentially means dark. I mean yeh... it was used in a bad way. Anyways, Guillard was always an exciting fighter in my opinion. i'd rather watch him then a load of fighters with a better record. Maybe Elite XC will sign him or some shit

Great...grand...wonderful. I'm not going to sit here and pretend I don't have my demons, but this guy has blown almost every chance thrown to him due to drugs.

Really enjoyed watching this cat fight, but goes to show that brains are just as important as muscle in this game. I wish him the best, though I doubt they teach BJJ in rehab.

matt- September 14, 2008 at 7:16 pm
why do u have to call us crackers? just cause melvin is a mess up and cant lay off the crack, he had all the potential in the world and he f'd it up, he was brought into the spot light with tuf and talked like he was the greatest to lose and be the first fighter out of the house, then he calls out joe daddy and gets choked out in 27 seconds, the he calls out clementi and gets choked out within one round. He has not beaten any top fighters in the ufc and has had tons of legal problem i dont think the ufc should ever bring this guy back he is just a black eye for the sport.

Considering something like 97% of Harris County is without power, that's gotta suck.

Douchebaggery, I find "honkie" a much better racial slur than "cracker," because who doesn't like crackers? I'll tell you who: communists.

Hey D-bag, nigga-wha......
Clementi- September 14, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Too bad..that guy was an exciting fighter. His hands were wickedly fast.. It's a shame he always tried to go for the one punch knockout instead of being an all around good fighter.

I hope to see this guy back in the ring.

Now lets see if that punk Rampage gets the boot. What he did is a heck of a lot worse that what Melvin did...

At least the Young Assassin finally killed something. Unfortunately for him it was his career.

Is that the sound of the Irony Train? I am in awe of Mayhem - 420 - lecturing about drug use. Awe.

Scuse me, gotta catch my train.
mayhem420- September 14, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I knew this was going to have to do with drugs. A tiger doesnt change his stripes and all that. What a tool.... he is throwing away a good career for what?
Just dumb.....
