Joe we are dealing with reality and what has happened is what is real, so the proof as they say is in the pudding. So far no other organization has brought MMA into the mainstream world any better than UFC, it is what it is.
We won't agree on boxing cause I think it is a dead sport that just doesn't know its dead. And we won't agree on money paid to fighters, BUT I will agree that the low end of the pay-scale could be bumped up say 10k as minimum. I wouldn't agree to anything else.

UFC Fan.... the fact that the UFC is on top doesn't mean the other companies haven't had solid plans... it's harder to compete when somebody else already owns the market. If strikeforce were first and had a headstart then the UFC would be the stepping stone organization right now. This is something we will never know. But we can be sure that MMA in North America would still exist and still grow.
Boxing isn't dying... people have said that for years and it's always survived. I too hate the corruption but only a fool thinks MMA is immune to that.
As far as what fighters make in total... yes we do know... or have a great idea. I'm not saying they need millions of dollars, I'm not saying they should get a years wages for one fight... what I am saying is if they are good enough to make the televised PPV then they are good enough to earn more than 6 grand. A REAL fan... whether it be of MMA or just the UFC would understand that there would be better fighters and the sport could evolve faster if it could be considered a career for more than just 2 percent of its participants.

Let me answer your question.
#1 I know that if the fertitta's AND Dana white hadn't bought UFC that someone else might have, or another company would have started up to replace it completely, but there is no guarantee that any small time business or group of them would be able to promote MMA as well as the Fertitta's and Dana White has done. So far since the 80's I have been 100% correct. I don't understand why just because Dana is a cocky and sure of himself that is a bad trait or that it somehow is bad for MMA, consider if every promoter/president was a pussy wimp soft spoken pacifist, where would MMA be? You don't have to like Dana White but you gotta have enough sense to know that it ( MMA) has grown and thrived because of what the UFC has done, not what strikefarce or ASSfliction or and other minor little league has done, that's is just a fact you can deny it, and bitch about it all you want but it won't ever change that. Most MMA fans can't stand that the UFC is top dog, it burns their ass they want variety, but the truth is UFC is the big time and everything else is stepping stone TO UFC. These little companys are doing nothing to promote MMA, and no being on spike or showtime or shit like that isn't what I am talking about, UFC is recognized by ESPN, and THAT is what has put MMA on the map.
#2 yes boxers have been entertaining people for " a long time",and I use to love boxing back in the 60, and 70's and early 80's, but boxing has become corrupt and after discovering UFC #1 I was never as interested in boxing again, plus the fighters I loved to watchy all got old retired or died, and I have no interest in todays flashy moronic overpaid shitty , FIXED boxing. I hate it. And I know for a fact more people my age or even younger feel exactly the same way, boxing is a dying sport. and just cause a sport is old doesn't mean it will be here forever, if that were not true we would still feed our prisoners to the lions to see if they could win or not, we no longer have those sports.
#3 we don't really know what a fighter gets in a lump sum from advertisements, and other amenities, I would guess that a fighter getting 6k that is added onto after all his fees are paid IE camps and trainers etc. Shane Carwin no longer has to have his full time job to make it, he keeps it cause he likes it, but once he beats Brock he wont even have time to keep his day job, nor will he need to.
But guys who are mid range fighters or lower need to have 2 jobs, but what is wrong with that? I don't know anyone who hasn't been willing to work 2 jobs to make ends meet, fighters shouldn't be any different just because you have grown attached to them cause of their fighting style, we "humanize" they guys to the point of making them pampered and soft, there is no need for that, only the moronic and stupid fail, like Junie browning, or war machine, for every one of those clowns you have real men who can balance a life and a sport, they don't need to be paid like rock stars.

I don't really feel to bad for them. They chose the lifestyle. Instead of becoming a fighter I am finishing law school with a secure position when I graduate. They could have done the same thing, have a life plan and then do this on the side. If the fighting pans out, then good, but if not they are still employed and and don't have much to worry about.
