Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

So You Wanna Be an MMA Superstar?

The dream: Headlining a UFC pay-per-view card, knocking your opponent out in front of a roaring crowd, then making a few laps in your money silo. The reality: Endless struggle, no money, and no health insurance; some fighters are even forced to bang skanks on camera to make ends meet. This MMA shit? Not easy. Fight Life is a new documentary from actor/filmmaker James Z. Feng, in which various MMA stars describe the long, hard road to success in the world’s most demanding sport. "Maybe someday out there is your day, that’s what you’re fighting for," says author Sam Sheridan. "And on that day, maybe you can have it all." Or maybe this happens

Joe we are dealing with reality and what has happened is what is real, so the proof as they say is in the pudding. So far no other organization has brought MMA into the mainstream world any better than UFC, it is what it is.
We won't agree on boxing cause I think it is a dead sport that just doesn't know its dead. And we won't agree on money paid to fighters, BUT I will agree that the low end of the pay-scale could be bumped up say 10k as minimum. I wouldn't agree to anything else.

UFC Fan.... the fact that the UFC is on top doesn't mean the other companies haven't had solid plans... it's harder to compete when somebody else already owns the market. If strikeforce were first and had a headstart then the UFC would be the stepping stone organization right now. This is something we will never know. But we can be sure that MMA in North America would still exist and still grow.
Boxing isn't dying... people have said that for years and it's always survived. I too hate the corruption but only a fool thinks MMA is immune to that.
As far as what fighters make in total... yes we do know... or have a great idea. I'm not saying they need millions of dollars, I'm not saying they should get a years wages for one fight... what I am saying is if they are good enough to make the televised PPV then they are good enough to earn more than 6 grand. A REAL fan... whether it be of MMA or just the UFC would understand that there would be better fighters and the sport could evolve faster if it could be considered a career for more than just 2 percent of its participants.

Now that you have calmed down and you are talking a tad more civil I will follow that trend and simply reply. (glad you could learn that lesson).
Let me answer your question.
#1 I know that if the fertitta's AND Dana white hadn't bought UFC that someone else might have, or another company would have started up to replace it completely, but there is no guarantee that any small time business or group of them would be able to promote MMA as well as the Fertitta's and Dana White has done. So far since the 80's I have been 100% correct. I don't understand why just because Dana is a cocky and sure of himself that is a bad trait or that it somehow is bad for MMA, consider if every promoter/president was a pussy wimp soft spoken pacifist, where would MMA be? You don't have to like Dana White but you gotta have enough sense to know that it ( MMA) has grown and thrived because of what the UFC has done, not what strikefarce or ASSfliction or and other minor little league has done, that's is just a fact you can deny it, and bitch about it all you want but it won't ever change that. Most MMA fans can't stand that the UFC is top dog, it burns their ass they want variety, but the truth is UFC is the big time and everything else is stepping stone TO UFC. These little companys are doing nothing to promote MMA, and no being on spike or showtime or shit like that isn't what I am talking about, UFC is recognized by ESPN, and THAT is what has put MMA on the map.
#2 yes boxers have been entertaining people for " a long time",and I use to love boxing back in the 60, and 70's and early 80's, but boxing has become corrupt and after discovering UFC #1 I was never as interested in boxing again, plus the fighters I loved to watchy all got old retired or died, and I have no interest in todays flashy moronic overpaid shitty , FIXED boxing. I hate it. And I know for a fact more people my age or even younger feel exactly the same way, boxing is a dying sport. and just cause a sport is old doesn't mean it will be here forever, if that were not true we would still feed our prisoners to the lions to see if they could win or not, we no longer have those sports.
#3 we don't really know what a fighter gets in a lump sum from advertisements, and other amenities, I would guess that a fighter getting 6k that is added onto after all his fees are paid IE camps and trainers etc. Shane Carwin no longer has to have his full time job to make it, he keeps it cause he likes it, but once he beats Brock he wont even have time to keep his day job, nor will he need to.
But guys who are mid range fighters or lower need to have 2 jobs, but what is wrong with that? I don't know anyone who hasn't been willing to work 2 jobs to make ends meet, fighters shouldn't be any different just because you have grown attached to them cause of their fighting style, we "humanize" they guys to the point of making them pampered and soft, there is no need for that, only the moronic and stupid fail, like Junie browning, or war machine, for every one of those clowns you have real men who can balance a life and a sport, they don't need to be paid like rock stars.
Joedirt- November 14, 2009 at 7:29 am
UFC fan.... do you really think if Dana and the Zuffas didn't purchase the UFC that there would be no MMA?? Just like you pointed out for the fighters, there are other business men waiting to step up. If the UFC wasn't around SOMEBODY else would be.
Those "one trick ponys" that only know boxing have been entertaining people for centuries... it's the oldest known sport. When I compared the money I was doing it from a business stand point.... NOT comparing the sports... that like you is played out.
I'm not saying any fighter should get 30 million... but I AM saying somebody who trains hard year round and even harder for 3 months leading to his fight, has gym fees, trainer cuts and maybe lucks into getting on 2 cards a year.... THAT guy deserves more than 6000 per fight.
You're telling me Shane Carwin who is fighting for the heavyweight championship SHOULD also have to hold a full time job??? How does a fighter bring their best game when they have to train AFTER work?
Randy Pan- November 14, 2009 at 1:40 am
Pussy ass cuntmouth? Nice.

I'd be interested if they actually showed a few of these dudes fight. If they were talented fighters who won fights but never made any scratch out of the business, that'd be one thing. If they all just sucked balls at fighting and got their asses kicked, on top of not making any money, that'd be sad and kind of funny.
Joedirt- November 13, 2009 at 4:06 pm
For all the people that think NOT paying more money is ok because the sport is NOT mainstream..... the UFC has broken PPV records.... as well as brought in the same at the gate as many boxing events... UFC pays out roughly a total of 1 million and half for ALL fighters for a show.. yet almost 20 years ago with LESS in revenue per event Mike Tyson made close to 30 million per fight.... let that sink in before your next stupid statement UFC fan.

Welcome to cagepotato's comments section you lazy, dickface. LOL!
Joedirt- November 13, 2009 at 3:34 pm
UFC Fan... well... never mind... I was going to explain business to you and why paying the fighters more would evolve the sport faster but clearly it's beyond your comprehension.

Swedish... I happen to be one of the "idiots" who thinks he has an idea about business... what do you do for a living? Why do you think these fighters shouldn't be paid on par with comparable athletes in other sports?
CodyV- November 13, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Man, they have some assholes here
UFC fan- November 13, 2009 at 2:36 pm
who gives a fuck, the point is stop whining if you are fighter then fucking fight if you are banker then fucking bank, but shut up already.
provrorsbarn- November 13, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Well all I got is "it sucks to NOT have free healthcare if your an mma figher in the states"....

If u look at the "earning money issue", only a handfull of fighters in MMA make good money....and most of them are in the UFC....thats cuz the sport aint mainstream yet...its tough but it will get there in time.....

RNCyomama- November 13, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Wow, thought I was on CP, not Inside the Beltway Fuckin Today. Take it somewhere else bitches.
831 Son- November 13, 2009 at 11:38 am
Why would I ever do that? Im not unemployed, and not in desperate need of cash. Dont cry just because Obama is president and you wanted your boy McCain to be pres. you pussy. Get over it. Plus, you complaining isnt going to do shit.
reddog- November 13, 2009 at 11:30 am

this is an mma site, not the Foxnews editorial board. I would guess people running a site are pretty fucking capitalist, judging by the large amount of ads on all sides of the page. tool.

Talented, famous fighters make money. so unless you become that, you dont make shit. too bad.
Swedish- November 13, 2009 at 11:27 am
831 Son - Go to the unemployment office and beg for your government handout.

Obama can only feed your family for so long you leach
831 Son- November 13, 2009 at 11:21 am
Oh so what are you then Swedish? A fucking Bush lemming? Better yet a McCain Lemming? Shut the fuck up this aint political science. I bet your dumb ass would vote for Palin in 2012 anyway.
vacantidentity- November 13, 2009 at 10:53 am
Looks like an awesome documentary! Not to mention the fact that the gym I train at is featured at 2:21! Cheetah Muay Thai in Oakland, CA!
Swedish- November 13, 2009 at 10:41 am
Thank you UFC fan,

The idiots on this website fail to understand the basics of a capitalistic economy. Nobody gives a F that you don't make much. You make exactly what the market is willing to pay for you.

90% of the people (including the CP staff) on this website are Obama / Marxist lemmings.
UFC fan- November 13, 2009 at 10:21 am
I can't stand this whiny sand in their vagina crying mother fucker's.
There are a dozen guys waiting in line that would gladly push these vagina's aside to take their place.
suck it up you bottom feeders and understand that sacrifice is what makes you strong, not crying like a fucking bitch.
fuck a bunch of EMO fighters and their stupid EMO fans. shut up already.
Fight Fan- November 13, 2009 at 9:29 am
You don't get payed based on athletic ability. You get paid when people care enough to pay to watch you.

Only the top fight organizations will ever be close to mainstream, and hoardes of wanna-bes will continue to fight in boatyards and unknown organizations and do it for chump change. That's the way it is.

Being a fighter = no pay
Being a great fighter = great pay.
brandorm- November 13, 2009 at 9:29 am
I don't really feel to bad for them. They chose the lifestyle. Instead of becoming a fighter I am finishing law school with a secure position when I graduate. They could have done the same thing, have a life plan and then do this on the side. If the fighting pans out, then good, but if not they are still employed and and don't have much to worry about.
831 Son- November 13, 2009 at 9:19 am
Yea its embarrassing that baseball players, tennis players, bowlers and so on get paid 10 times as much as MMA fighters. MMA fighters are far superior athletes in every way. Not one sport demands such athleticism and skill in the world as MMA does yet these fucking losers playing ping pong championships get paid 100 gs to win. Fucking ridiculous. Once this shit REALLY gets mainstream, then I truely believe MMA fighters will be paid what they deserve.
CreamyTitties- November 13, 2009 at 9:19 am
This shit looks gay. Cut the drama and the fruity music
skeletor- November 13, 2009 at 8:47 am

Isn't it supply and demand?
