Strikeforce Announces Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers For This Fall

At today's Fedor Emelianenko meet-n-greet in New York City, Strikeforce announced that the top heavyweight's next opponent will be everybody's favorite work-doer, Brett "The Grim" Rogers. There's no solid date just yet, but Strikeforce is shooting for late October or early November, though we all know that if you announce the date of your big show too far in advance it just gives the UFC more time to work up a solid counter-programming effort.
The decision to match Emelianenko up with Rogers means that Strikeforce is entering the build-up phase of their Fedor marketing approach. According to our rankings, it's the #1 heavyweight in the world taking on the #10 heavyweight in the world. Not exactly a clash of titans, at least on paper, but as long as Rogers doesn't test positive for steroids and Fedor doesn't have any trouble with his Work Visa, I suppose we can't complain. Now who wants to guess what the odds will be on this one? If Fedor is anything less than a 5-1 favorite, I'll be stunned.

yea rogers beat arlovski but struggled against bongo the fight before and kept grabing his dreadlocks and was not impressive. this shouldnt take long if emilianenko works on his hand speed in preperation

I wonder how many fights that Rogers has on contract? Lets say he beats his ass, which I think could happen, sort of a Rogers nuthugger. They would have to pay him a ton to keep him, and Fedor would be worth nothing. I could be wrong, but I don't think Fedor has fought anyone who is really Hungry in a long time, and Rodgers has they eye of the Tiger, as Carl Weathers would say....

I think Fedor has a serious advantage but I think that Rogers is underestimated.
Who has Fedor fought recently that was any serious competition? UFC Cast Off's Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski. Although I love Arlovski- he didn't have the chin to handle Fedor. I think that Brett can take a blow.
Oh yeah- and Brett is going to be 30+ pounds heavier too. And not Sylvia lard ass weight either.
If it goes to the ground, I think Rogers will get massacred about as fast as The Maniac did, since fat guys don't get up very quickly but if it stays standing- Brett Rogers will make the Last Emperor work for his rubles.

I am seriously considering getting that T-shirt that the Grim is wearing. And I think he's actually got a shot; He certainly made Arlovski look like easy work, whereas Fedor took a lot of hits before catching the off switch with a big swing.
Say what you want about styles make fights, I won't write Rogers off.

I just don't understand why rogers is all of a sudden a threat.He did beat Andrei but you could tell before their fight that something was definitely up with the Pitbull.He seemed unsure and depressed.Fedors got it easily.And then hopefully they'll kick the grim off the top 10 list....where he never belonged.

Hendo has said before that it was a bit hard adjusting to the cage coming from the ring. No longer do the ropes slide off your back. Instead you have the velcro-ish steel netting that your backfat creates considerable friction against.
At any rate, i hope fedor loses so I don't have to read about him anymore. His only legitimate competition is farr farrrr away in the UFC, with chest-cock tatoos and full time engineering jobs...

Look, Brett is 10-0. Carwin is 11-0. Both have spent about the same time in the ring. All Brett"s win have come by KO, Carwin has a few subs in there. The people they have beat? About the same, nobody great. Brett beat AA and Carwin Gonzaga.
