Strikeforce Results: Don’t Call It An Upset

Josh Thomson overwhelmed Gilbert Melendez for all five rounds last night to become the new Strikeforce lightweight champion, despite entering the bout as a 2-1 underdog. Strikeforce reportedly packed in almost 7,500 fans into San Jose’s HP Pavilion to see the show. Too bad fans don’t care about MMA outside the UFC.

What a SNOOZER....The best fight card I have seen this year was probably UFC Penn Vs. Sherk, 9 fights and some knockouts. Hate on Gary Shaw all you want, but the Elitexc fights are usually entertaining. Did anyone catch the last Sportfight on HDnet, they had some good fights on there as well.

Does anyone else think the Affliction will be a snoozfest with all the out of shape heavyweights? Maybe Dana White Knows something....

Fans don't care? Why should they? Do you watch arena football or IHL hockey? Fans want to see the best of the best of the sport on tv. Right now the UFC (and WEC below lightweight) has the best talent, now that Pride is dead. Sure I may attend a local mma event, but I sure as heck won't pay to see it on tv.

As far as affording HDnet, I am paying no more noe for cable with it than I was paying for cable with out it. SOoooo it doesn't cost much. Thanks to HDnet for at least trying to put on decent affordable fights with decent production quality. I will take one of these fights over a Gary Shaw production any day. The fights on this night were fairly boring. There were moments but overall...meh...

I was at the fights last night and was disappointed to say the least. The Bobby Southworth fight was a sleep inducing 25 minute bout of slow low level jits. The girls stole the show with an entertaining and at points skillful fight. The main event failed to live up to the hype. Gilbert and Josh would trade off stalking each other but both seemed reluctant to strike. Josh was always 1 step ahead of Gilbert, his jabs were quicker and his take downs caught Melendez off guard more than once. Thompson won and rightfully so but I dont think he beat the Melendez we are all used to seeing.

Looking at the results, it looked like a shitty fight night, so many decisions no knockouts, thats why low rate fight fans stick to the UFC. You almost always get quality fights.

I also want to say, Phil Baroni is a joke! I laughed my ass of watching his lame-ass entrance at eliteXC a while back.

Its not that fans dont care about MMA outside of UFC, its that we cant afford HDNet.

6 Decisions
5 Submissions
1 Dr. Stoppage

Sounds like boring, epic failure

@.Says, your right there is no P in "The Punks" name. In CP's defense I have never seen thompson spelled without a p.

either the poster spelled thompson wrong or you did... the first would be far worse
