TUF 14 Finale Bonuses: Diego Brandao Picks Up an Extra $80,000, Will Be Able to Buy His Mom That House

From what we hear, Brazilian real estate is a buyer’s market right now. That’s good news for Diego Brandao, who earned enough bonus money last night to get his beloved mother a decent ranch house near all the good favelas. The UFC handed out $40,000 performance bonuses to the following TUF 14 Finale competitors:

Fight of the Night: Diego Brandao and Dennis Bermudez for their dramatic one-rounder, in which odds-on favorite Brandao started strong, then nearly got TKO’d, then pulled an armbar directly out of his ass with nine seconds left in the round.

Knockout of the Night: John Dodson, for generating an incredible amount of torque from that tiny body and smashing TJ Dillashaw in under two minutes.

Submission of the Night: Diego Brandao again, for armbarring victory out of the jaws of defeat.

And as we mentioned in yesterday’s liveblog, $25,000 “Best of the Season” bonuses were also awarded to these TUF 14 Finale competitors…

Fight of the Season: Dustin Pague vs Louis Gaudinot

Knockout of the Season: John Dodson (against Johnny Bedford)

Submission of the Season: Dennis Bermudez (against Akira Corassani)

…meaning that Dodson’s total bonus-take from last night was actually $65,000, which will buy the talented dynamo a whole lot of energy drinks and action figures.

Ummmm MMA1, at this point, I can submit Sakuraba, he was never a true test of Mayhem’s skills either. It’s painfully obvious he needs to retire and is not even in anyone’s top 10 so its pretty clear you don’t know shit except you’re living proof your mom made a mistake when she fucked your dad who I’m guessing wasn’t around at all. But it’s late, I’m high, and I don’ want to think about it anymore. I love Mayhem, but dude needs work on his entire approach to standup.

I was seriously rooting for Mayhem but I didn’t realize how much work the guy needs in his standup. He has a long reach so he should work the jab to establish distance, he has long legs to set up leg kicks as well. I think he seriously needs a high level Muay Thai/Boxing coach in order to work on his technique and learn to work angles, head movement, and footwork, all of which are basic fighting fundamentals. At this point, I’m sorry to say it but, I think Dana White would be right to cut him due to his performance. Mayhem definitely needs some more seasoning before he’s ready to come back.

You must understand that even if Miller would have stood up, Bisping threw the kick too early. Think about how a fighter stands back up and what constitutes a downed opponent. Think about how often we see fighters strategically place one hand on the ground when in “a plum” or position where they may take strikes to the head from an opponent. Both Bisping and Miller looked like garbage compared to what we saw from the fights below on the T.V. and Facefuck portion of the show.

Three things I am ecstatic, Meh, and impressed to have witnessed from last nights event.

Ecstatic – Brandao Vs. Bermudez – Welcome to the UFC and to the list of most exciting fights of all time.

Meh – I knew as soon as Mayhem did his walk out overhead clapping thing that he was done. He spent all his energy clapping his way into the ring. Team Bisping went what, 4-0 last night and Mayhem got dominated, Yeah he’s gone, clapped your way right out of the UFC.

Impressed – I was impressed by Bisping last night not for beating a gassed opponent but for one move that he made. When Mayhem was crouched against cage and Bisping threw head kick that missed I don’t think he missed. Rogan said “woah that was illegal” but it wasn’t because if he had connected then Mayhem would have been on his feet. Bisping purposely set his kick high because if Mayhem had chosen that moment to get up it would have been highlight reel knockout. Not a huge deal but I though it was pretty impressive to try and time kick for where opponent will be not where he is.

If that’s the best Mayhem we are going to get, he should be cut. Hope he gets another shot though. I recall watching Mayhem’s fight week video at mmafighting, he kept saying ‘I feel good’ while doing drills. Sounded like he was testing something out. Good fights last night aside from the main event.

Mayhem must have been injured because he looked terrible at the weigh ins, even lost his fat head. then he starts throwing a terrible impression of Dan Hendersons overhand right and gasses in like 45 seconds. suposively he trains with greats so theres no excuse for that performance unless he was injured or something leading into the fight.
