UFC Signs Undefeated Strikeforce Heavyweight Shane Del Rosario

It was announced yesterday that Shane Del Rosario — an 11-0 heavyweight whose record includes 10 first-round stoppages — has been signed to the UFC in their ongoing carcass-picking of Strikeforce’s heavyweight division. The Team Oyama product has gone 3-0 under the Strikeforce banner, most recently scoring an armbar-submission over Lavar Johnson at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva in February.

Del Rosario was scheduled to face Daniel Cormier in a Heavyweight Grand Prix reserve bout at the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum show in June. Unfortunately, he was forced to pull out of the bout after a drunk driver struck his car in May, which left him with a back injury. Now he’s healed up and heading for bigger challenges in the Octagon. Shane’s UFC debut date and opponent are still TBA. (My prediction/suggestion: The winner of Pat Barry vs. Christian Morecraft on January 20th.)

After the jump: Videos of Del Rosario’s three Strikeforce ass-kickings.

(Del Rosario def. Lavar Johnson via armbar, 2/12/11)

(Del Rosario def. Lolohea Mahe via TKO, 7/23/10)

(Del Rosario def. Brandon Cash via omoplata, 11/6/09)

You do have to think about grappling, and this guy just pulled an omoplatta out of his ass after getting dominated for the first few minutes.

Don't get me wrong, I think he looks promising and exciting. It's hard to argue against 8 TKOs in 11 fights or whatever with just one going beyond the first round, but I'm just trying to put him in front of a Cheick Kongo or Cane Velazquez in my mind and I think he has some work to do.
Especially since WBC is absolutely not comparable to MMA, where you have to think about take-downs and grappling.

Damn good prospect for the UFC! I've had the chance to hang out with Shane... He's a good dude and is humble as hell. Watch his kickboxing fights MMAposeur... His striking is very effective.

I thought he looked small too, wiki says he's 248 though. Bigger than dos Santos.
His striking doesn't look especially effective to me (despite the 8 TKOs on his record), but he's got a good ground game for a big guy - and is definitely a finisher. I'd be excited to see him tested by elite fighters.

Overeem has competed at 205 but always waling at 227-220 so he never was small. I guess he was always bigger than fedor and than cain since 08.
After mir gets smashed against some top contender lets see him face Del Rosario or Cormier!

@ Sopapo: Ah, my mistake, thanks for the catch.

would you say that Overeem is the smaller of the 2 guys between him and brock? he use to be at 205 im sure he cut some weigh to make it.

"flawless through six appearances under the Strikeforce banner"
not really, all thos 3 fights u got there are all of his strikeforce fghts. He fought only 3 times under that banner.

He's not huge, but neither is Cain or Fedor! Obviously that can work if it means you're faster than these humunculoids like Brock and Reem. With excellent muay thai and a frikkin omoplata from nowhere he's obviously a threat. And his record looks just like Cain and Carwin's did when they came to the UFC.
This is genuinely the most exciting time ever for the UFC HW division.
