Update on the Evans-Jones Situation: If He Fights ‘Bones’, Rashad Wants Greg Jackson to Choose Sides

(Video courtesy of YouTube/MMAHeat)

MMA Heat’s Karyn Bryant caught up with Rashad Evans to get clarification on the former UFC light heavyweight champion’s recent comments that he is considering leaving Team Jackson due to the rift that was created by Jon Jones snaking his title shot away from him.

Evans pulled no punches and his response which left nothing up to interpretation.

“What’s gonna happen is, the teams are gonna split apart. If I know there’s a chance I’m training with Jon and Greg’s training with Jon, I’m not gonna train with Greg any more, EVER again. Because I need my coach to always be able to coach me no matter who I’m gonna fight. If he can’t do that, I don’t feel that there’s a use for me having him as my coach.”

I guess Rashad doesn’t remember how giving Jackson an ultimatum worked out for Diego when GSP became the apple of the Albuquerque trainer’s eye.

Rashad...does anyone even rate this clown? He eked out a decision over a very rusty Rampage and suddenly he's the top dog again..I can't wait until he's out of the picture..I predict loss to Shogun, loss to Jones, loss in rematch with either rampage or Machida and then off to strike force.

It's a sport it's not the fucking Thunderdome. Both guys are going to hug after the fight and either go fuck their wives or cry themselves to sleep but come on guys , this isn't life or death.

He sounds like such a cry baby right now I am surprised DW isn't whacking him with a suspension for misrepresenting the sport. fucking sally

Good point, Buff Frank Mir, on your analogy. In fact, Rashad is the one reminding me of Tito during those days, talking up their friendship like they are blood brothers.

jones i believe said the right thing by saying he would fight Evans if he were champ. Its up to the challenger to say no. Jones would look like Tito when he didn't want to fight Chuck.

@ RaginAsian

I think that's what Rashad is afraid of.

These fighters are whiny bitches. Coaches coach teams (fuck head) because thats how they make money. Fighting is your fucking job, Fight your teammates and be happy that your team is good enough to produce top level competition. Not every coach will be top notch...Just ask all these guys that leave GJ and come back...
Morningwood- March 15, 2011 at 3:21 pm
yeah, and would you want to face Jones as your first opponent after being out for over a year?

Plus I still think Rashad is afraid of Jones anyways.
Yazloz18- March 15, 2011 at 3:02 pm
Yeah they said Diego fell on his knee or something like that, but it was Diego. I just can't believe how much drama is going on here. This is WWE level shit

Always notice how the guys that can't fight because of injuries or suspensions are always yapping the most. Trying to make sure that nobody forgets about them. A bunch of times they end up saying too much and jeopardize their job or relationship with coaches and camps. They should worry about making themselves healthy enough to fight again. Deal with the all the bullshit when you can step in the cage. You want the title shot Rashad? Then get healthy and shut the fuck up. If you hadn't taken the easy route and sat on the shelf when Shogun was injured, then maybe you would be in better shape instead of injuring yourself during training. Not to blame Rashad enirely for the injury. Sometimes these injuries do happen in training, it just happens. Rashad could've taken fights, but he wanted first shot at Shogun and sat out since May 29, of 2010. By the time he gets his ass back in the cage, it will have been over a year since he faced action. Plus his previous fights against Rampage and Thiago were sub-par at best.

Clubber Lang vs Apollo Creed anyone?
AndyInflammatory- March 15, 2011 at 2:36 pm
now all they need to do is drive a wedge into AKA and all will be right with the world
RaginAsian- March 15, 2011 at 2:27 pm
Go to Strikeforce, Rashad.
danomite- March 15, 2011 at 2:22 pm
wow, Rashad is being a whiny bitch about all this. What is so hard about going to train at Grudge? It's just full of ex-Jackson guys anyways. It would be a Dick move by Greg Jackson to train Bones over Rashad if the two ever did fight, though, considering Rashad's been there longer than just about anybody. Rashad is definitely making it easier on Jackson with all this whining.

Reshad seems to be a little bitter cuz hes not the Stud Stallion that he used to be in jacksons eye. maybe he should start worshipping the devil so if/when he fights Jones we can have a god and jon jones vs devil and reshad tag team match!!!!
ryangball- March 15, 2011 at 2:03 pm
Being professional is important when you are doing business. If they don't want to fight, then fire them both. Even the Overeem brothers said they would fight if they had to in the Strikeforce HW Tourny. They already fight all the time in the gym anyway.
PingPong- March 15, 2011 at 1:52 pm
I could see why Rashad would be pissed, he towed the party line and Jones sucker punched him in the media. So for that reason I am going to be rooting Shogun, Jones is starting to believe his own ridiculously inflated hype.

Also you know Pride never die and all that...

I can imagine things will get real awkward at the Jackson camp if Jones loses and Suga gets the next title shot.

War breaking up large camps so fighters have to actually fight each other.
