Video: MMA Live – Kenny Florian and Miguel Torres Break Down the UFC-WEC Merger and Roy Nelson talks Potential Brock Lesnar Bout

(Video courtesy ESPN/MMALive)

Kenny Florian and Miguel Torres co-hosted last night’s episode of MMA Live and it was surprising to hear both fighters praise Zuffa for making the decision to merge the WEC and UFC brands.

The reality is that the promotion will likely not hold as many events per year as both organizations did in the past, so for both fighters to say that the move is a positive one is curious to say the least.

It’s understandable that Torres, who revealed during the show that he will face Manuel Banuelos at UFC 126, would be excited about the merger as will likely see more lucrative paydays and will get more mainstream exposure fighting on the bigger stage, but Florian doesn’t stand to gain much from the move.

Not only will there be fewer slots on each card for him to potentially fight on with 20-plus, he will have to face an influx of tough fighters like Jose Aldo and Torres who will inevitably move up to lightweight in the future.

Also on the segment, Roy Nelson and his magnificent mullet discussed being called out by Brock Lesnar and his feelings on the fight, which he has coveted for some time.

Intrestingly, both Florian and Torres pointed out that Lesnar doesn’t have the experience necessary to build a legacy like Fedor Emelianenko and that the former WWE star needs to go back to the drawing board and work his way back to a tiltle shot or risk being beaten out of contention.

Truth!

In Portuguese, the "J" in Jose is stressed, so it is pronounced as Joh-ze instead of Ho-ze. So Jon Anik is doing it right.

Manuel Banuelos is my favorite fighter of all time.

I hate how the host keeps saying "Johzay" Aldo !!! Common now , really ,does he not pay attention to how everyone says the name! He probably says "Joice" Gracie.

So you assumed Kenny would have bad things to say about the merger because:
his friends and fellow fighters will finally get the exposure and pay scale they deserve, his employer just became even more dominant and powerful, and it sets up even more interesting fights for him? And, in most people's opinion (except maybe at CP), it's just a good move for the sport in general? That would make Kenflo quite a selfish guy to complain just about possibly having one fewer fight per year. And why would he complain about getting tougher competition? That's suggesting he likes easy fights, which is kind of insulting. Even from a practical point of view - he's a UFC company man, plus he's saying this on ESPN - you can't seriously be surprised.

Kenny is no fool, he is concerned about his future as a possible UFC rep, commentator, etc. He is company and thats why you hear him say these things. He is a smart cat and ending up like Ken Shamrock is not on his to do list.

if he loses to Nelson then I would agree. Not saying Nelson is bad.

You assume K-Flo isnt interested in challenging fights. I can only hope that the majority of fighters dont think the same way CP does in this matter, otherwise, they aren't much of fighters at all. This isnt fuckin hooters where all the girls feel threatened when a new, hot chick with big tits gets hired, in fear of losing tips. You better get out there and beat that big titty bitch to that 12 top that just walked in. And fucking smile.

Brock should fight one of these so-called up and coming contenders like Schaub, Mitrione or Pat Barry.

But Cheik Congo?!!!! nnnnnNNNNNOOOOOoooooo.....

Florian needs a mullet to make this a trifecta.
